The annual tourism gala - sponsored by China's National Tourism Administration and the People's Government of Guangdong province - is a massive week-long festival offering a series of events and conventions in cities all around the province and attracting huge numbers of foreign visitors. However, la pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the grand opening ceremony which began with the depiction of the epic Legend of the Ship of the Blue Ocean and terminated with a spectacular fireworks display. Performances from popular guest stars such as Jacky Chan punctuated the ceremony, interspersing the modern with the traditional. In the best Chinese tradition, the event was an audio-visual feast, and hailed a great success by all who participated.
The show was equally successful from a technical point of view. An InnovaSON Sy80 was selected to handle FOH duties, running an ESS line array system with Camco amplification. JJ Chen from Hua Nan Professional Audio Engineering, InnovaSON's distributor in China, commented that this is a favoured configuration for government departments and mid- to large-scale shows.
