A 12-minute show was presented at the close of each night
UK - A 500 drone show was experienced nightly by 50,000 music lovers at the Isle of Wight Festival last weekend.
US-based Skyworx Drone Shows, producer for The Global Drone Network (GDN), presented a 12-minute show at the close of each night for revellers to enjoy. References to Jimi Hendrix, the island’s heritage and the world-famous festival filled the sky on all four nights with an attention-grabbing animated display.
Skyworx and GDN were supported by UK company AeroAVA, who handled all UK regulatory permissions and flight crew for the project.
Skyworx founder and CEO, Taylor Woodall, comments: "It has been a great pleasure to create and deliver our first UK drone show at the iconic Isle of Wight Festival. We believe this is the largest drone show presented at any UK festival to date."
Reflecting on the sustainability aspects of the project, Tom Rees, managing director of AeroAVA adds: "This is definitely the future route for large scale international drone shows. Working collaboratively, we have been able to support Skyworx and the Isle of Wight Festival by providing regional resources while reducing environmental impact to deliver a highly memorable display for the crowd."
The display was flown at Seaclose Park, Newport. Combining global resources and using the highest specification drones available, both Skyworx and AeroAVA see sustainability and carbon emissions reduction as key features of major public event displays in the coming years.
Fleet coverage spans Europe, North America, Australia, and the Middle East, with the potential to supply over 2,000 aircraft. In collaboration, this provides lower transportation costs and reduced carbon emissions from road and cross-continent air freight.
Rees notes: “The technology we both use is creatively very dynamic, versatile and a more sustainable alternative for outdoor displays because they produce no combustion gases or noise. Battery-powered, they create no residual debris and are reusable, leaving the performance space exactly as found.”
