JAMES is introducing the JAMES Orchestral Recording Sessions
UK - Now in its eighth year, the Gus Dudgeon Foundation and JAMES Summer School 2018 will be held at Leeds Becket University.
The format of the Gus Dudgeon Foundation and JAMES Summer Course sees students from JAMES accredited university courses being selected to work over five days with industry professionals and experience the recording and mixing process in a real-life situation.
Commencing on 9 July, the programme will once again be led by producer and Leeds Beckett Senior Lecturer Ken Scott, who will guide 13 students through the course.
Murray Dudgeon, Gus' brother, comments: "I am delighted that the 8th Gus Dudgeon Foundation Masterclass is taking place again this year. The course is a great way to celebrate and share some of Gus’ talent, and pass on real experience and learning to a new generation. I hope that as in previous years the attendees find the course a really beneficial experience."
This year Leeds band Heir will be recorded during the Masterclass week. SSL, KMR Audio and PMC are sponsoring the 2018 event.
Launching this year and following the same format, JAMES is also introducing the JAMES Orchestral Recording Sessions which will involve the student experience of recording both the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra.
Hosted by West Suffolk College, the Orchestral Sessions five-day course will begin on 28 June at University of Suffolk, Atrium Building with two days of preparation in orchestral recording. This is then put into action with one day recording the rehearsal and a concert of the Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds, who will be playing a 'dissertation score' from one of the University's degree graduates. The second day of recording continues with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford, and finally back to West Suffolk College, Bury St Edmunds to mix an orchestral track.
Steinberg Media Technologies is the sponsor to this inaugural event and has contributed software packages of Cubase Pro 9.5 and Dorico Pro 2 as student prizes.
