Ireland - LX2000 Stage Lighting Hire has become the first company in the Republic of Ireland to purchase a Jands Vista console, taking delivery of a T2 for the 2005 Wexford Festival Opera season at the Theatre Royal, last October.

The company specialises in providing a complete lighting service from equipment dry hire through to lighting design, rentals and installations for clients all over Ireland operating in the theatre, entertainment and events sectors.

LX2000's Seamus Reck had been a very satisfied Jands Event 408 user for the past four years, but had decided it was time to upgrade to a newer console with the extra programming power and DMX channels needed to handle the production needs of larger clients.

Reck had seen the Jands Vista launch at PLASA and was extremely impressed by it. Then earlier this year, having decided the timing was now right to upgrade, he came back to England to receive a full Vista demo and training from Jands European distributor, A.C. Lighting.

He says: "Having a rig plan, patch list etc. on a screen is so much easier than having it all on paper beside you. I managed to program a whole cue/list with ease during the short demo. The new time line concept for programming is ingenious. The thing I liked most about the Vista was its ability to make you look like you have done a lot more work than you actually have."

Convinced this was the only console for him, A.C. then arranged for prompt shipping, and two days of advanced training for LX2000's production team, to enable Reck to use the console on the Wexford Festival Opera.

The event, which is in its 54th year, is one of the most innovative and fastest growing of the world's major arts festivals. A diverse line-up includes full-scale opera productions plus daytime performances of shorter works of music theatre, concerts, recitals, talks and stand-up comedy from new creative talent.

Despite only taking delivery of the Vista in October, it has already proven very popular in the South East. The console was on hire at the Gorey Little Theatre and used on three other shows in the run up to Christmas.

Commenting on the desk from a commercial hire stock point of view, Reck said: "The Vista's especially suited to touring jobs as it's very fast to operate plus, as most people are already familiar with a computer's visually based user interface, it's easy to train people on it in a short space of time. They look at it differently to other desks as there's no spending hours with codes, so it's possible for them to sit down and design a show on it by themselves."
