Going underground in Gammarth

Tunisia - Located on a prime stretch of Tunisia’s Mediterranean coastline, just 15km north of Tunis, the upscale beach resort of Gammarth is known for its designer boutiques and luxury hotels.

By day, the streets buzz with life, but when night falls, the town transforms into a hotspot for clubbers and night owls, and since a collaboration with KV2 Audio, many are heading underground to BSMNT Club.

BSMNT is run by the organisers of Tunisia’s largest electronic music festival, Fabrika. This collective of artists, DJs, and visual arts enthusiasts, who have a decade of experience in cultural events, wanted an exceptional audio system for their club. They wanted to showcase both DJ sets and live performances and to achieve this, the Fabrika team turned to Sound Source, local experts in audio installation and the official distributor of KV2 Audio in North Africa.

“When the Fabrika community decided to take over BSMNT Club, they wanted fresh ideas and a new direction,” explains Zied Riahi, sales manager at Sound Source. “Their goal was to install a sound system that could meet the high standards of international DJs whilst also delivering an upscale customer experience.”

The Fabrika team were already familiar with KV2 products, having used them across all areas of their 2024 festival.

For the BSMNT Club in Gammarth, the brief given to Sound Source was to design a high-quality audio system capable of delivering an exceptional underground music experience. The team knew that a KV2 system would seamlessly transition between DJ sets and live performances while maintaining outstanding sound clarity and power, perfectly suited to the club’s electronic music focus.

“This project was an exciting challenge,” Riahi recalls. “We had to tailor our equipment to the club’s setting, which is basically a large basement converted into a dance floor. We collaborated closely with the Fabrika team, who trusted us to create an immersive soundscape.”

For the main club area, Sound Source selected two SL412 loudspeakers. These slim-profile point-source speakers provide wide dispersion at high frequencies while focusing low-mid frequencies, reducing unwanted reflections in the intimate club space.

“The SL series was the ideal choice,” Riahi explains. “These speakers deliver crystal-clear, precise sound, essential for a club environment, and allowing DJs to play a wide range of genres while maintaining optimal quality. Their ability to ensure uniform coverage across the dance floor, even in a basement setting, was crucial.” The SL series’ compact 30cm depth also provided installation flexibility, with options for wall mounting, suspension, ground stacking, or internal wall fixing.

To enhance the club’s deep, resonant bass, Sound Source installed two VHD2.21 subwoofers in the main area. Originally designed for Super Live Audio as part of a VHD system, these subwoofers deliver electronic music at 25Hz, without compromising clarity.

The setup was powered by two VHD3200D amplifiers and one SL3000D amplifier. In the DJ booth, Sound Source opted for two EX12 monitors and one EX1.8 subwoofer, ensuring DJs could hear every detail of their sets while delivering electronic music in its purest form to the audience.

“We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved at BSMNT,” Riahi adds. “We’ve installed a state-of-the-art KV2 Audio sound system that will thrill both clubbers and DJs alike. The SL series loudspeakers are used in the world’s top electronic music clubs, and BSMNT is no exception. With the addition of the VHD subwoofers, the club comes alive, offering a fully immersive sound experience.”
