UK - Essex-based sound rental company, Event Sound & Light scored a world touring first when it put out its newly purchased VHD sound system from KV2 Audio on the recent Illegal Eagles UK Tour. The VHD system, launched at PLASA last autumn, is KV2 Audio's new large format active driven speaker system which features what is the first implementation of Direct Stream Digital (DSD) technology as part of the speaker control system's delay circuit.

The company supplied a complete VHD system comprising VHD 2.0 mid/high enclosures, the VHD 4.18 Quad 18" subwoofer system and VHD2000 and VDH3200 amplification and control units. Event Sound & Light also supplied a number of KV2 Audio ES1.0, Epak 2500 and EX12 units for in-fills, balconies etc, plus some of its own proprietary CS200 speakers for the front of stage-fill.

Initially apprehensive of using a brand new, untried system, Tim Peeling, the band's FOH engineer, was soon won over: "It is an incredibly 'Hi-Fi sounding' system, with excellent vocal intelligibility and being a true point source system, it meant that I didn't have worry about any multiple source coloration. The sound that the band produces has huge dynamic, involving five part harmonies and loads of acoustic guitar and needs a system capable of giving really natural sound reproduction. The VHD system fitted the bill perfectly and sounded excellent."

In addition to the main VHD system, Tim also used the ES1.0 mid/high cabinets for extra fills, commenting: "As all the boxes across the range are voiced similarly, there was a seamless transition between these and the main front-of-house PA. Also, being able to cover theatre balconies with only one 30kg box per side is ridiculous!"

The system was able to cover all of the tour venues extremely well with very little effort and was easily set up by the two-man crew, says Peeling. "Not only is it a incredible sounding system but the additional advantages of its small size and easy set-up, has huge benefits in terms of saving manpower and truck space. This means that everybody on the tour, including the engineers, crew, band, public and tour accountants are happy," added Peeling.

Event Sound & Light supplied the tour in conjunction with Concert Sound who provided the control systems, including their new Cadac S-Type Live Production Console. Peeling also said: "The new VHD speaker system fitted in excellently with the compact control system from CADAC, with both companies sharing the same ethos concerning transparent sound reproduction".

Event Sound & Light's director, Nigel Hills, said: "We first heard the VHD system when KV2 flew us out to the Czech Republic at the beginning of last year, where they were beta testing it at a festival. We were immediately amazed at the sheer quality and power of the system produced by so few boxes. Our workload is now such that we needed to add a larger system to our stock and we are delighted to be the first company in the world to own it! The purchase of the VHD system continues our investment in KV2 Audio products and will sit perfectly alongside our large inventory of KV2 ES and EX units."

The company also took the opportunity of purchasing at the same time further KV2 EX10 and EX12 powered speakers through KV2 Audio Europe, KV2 reports.
