With the entertainment industry becoming, by its very nature, increasingly more technology-based, as well as technologically innovative, L&SI is increasing its coverage to reflect these changes.
In this new section we aim to cover a product review each month, kicking off with an overview of the principal DSP products currently on the market today and aimed at distributed audio installations. Often, our reviews will be condensed for magazine production reasons, and so all the reviews will be obtainable in their entirety from the L&SI website at www.plasa.org/media. The intention is that eventually a searchable technical database will be built up and a forum started so that information can be readily accessed.
Also new is a regular Q&A section. Designed to act as a source of information for anyone, from freelancers to managing directors, questions are encouraged on absolutely any technical issue concerning our industry and can be as simple as ‘which is the correct way to put dogs on wire rope terminations?’ through to ‘does the new bluetooth technology have any serious applications in the entertainment industry?’; the likelihood is that if you don’t know or you want more information, you won’t be alone.
We asked a few freelancers for questions to start off with. Where possible, in future we’ll also put questions to those in the industry most qualified to answer them. Where questions warrant fairly complex answers or further discussion, the complete response will again be found on our website.
