Determined to make their theatre spaces more environmentally friendly, The Point wanted to reduce their overall power consumption and saw the use of LED lighting as a natural way to do so. They were also eager to maintain the best possible theatrical dimming and colour options by having a flexible and varied lighting set-up whilst at the same time working towards a particular budget. "We needed to be flexible with fixtures and ensure that they would allow for use across different applications" comments Timothy Slater, technical manager at The Point.
White Light business development manager Jonathan Haynes, who led on the project, said, "it was a great experience working with The Point as we had to find a lighting set-up that would be versatile enough to meet the demands of their varied programme."
The products purchased included eight Altman Spectra Cyc 200, 14 x ETC Lustr Series 2, 12 x ETC ColorSource Par and 10 x Chauvet SlimPar Pro Tri. With Altman Spectra Cyc 200, Tim stated, "we have been waiting for a product like this to come out and we have been impressed with the dimming on the fixtures and the colours which we would have previously struggled to get from generic floods." Similarly the ColorSource Par and Lustr Series 2 fixtures have had a massive impact, seamlessly integrating into what was a completely tungsten lighting rig, providing an incredibly broad range of colour whilst still being able to achieve true whites and pastels.
The new LED units were first used at the venue's annual Christmas show which allowed them to experiment a lot more with certain sections of the production and tweak things throughout the run, providing a much greater degree of flexibility than traditional methods.
"White Light was really helpful throughout the entire purchase process as they understood our needs and specified perfect product solutions. The personal investment in helping us to decide what to buy was invaluable and I would recommend them highly," comments Tim.
