USA - The recent ETS-LDI exhibition in Orlando featured its annual Awards ceremony. This year's winners included Richard Pilbrow - Lighting Designer of the Year; Michael Clark - Projection Designer of the Year; Buford Jones - Sound Designer of the Year; and Brad Schiller - Technician of the Year.

In the product awards, Strand Lighting's C21 Dimmer range won Lighting Product of the Year. C21 and EC21 dimmer racks are designed for global operation and provide a number of advances in technology, say Strand. In addition to providing support for conventional SCR dimmers including Quad, Dual and single modules with ratings up to 12kW, sophisticated Sinewave dimmers are also available. Dual Sinewave modules can be mixed and matched with standard dimmers in the same rack for full flexibility.

Altman Lighting collected the Lighting/ Architecture Product of the Year Award for its Smart Track lighting system. Smart Track consists of a three-circuit track with DMX control built-in, and enables digital control signals to be brought to addressable architectural luminaires without the need for dimmer packs and bulky cable runs.

Neutrik's OpticalCon fibre optic connector system picked up the Sound Product of the Year Award. OpticalCon particularly impressed with its robustness and favourable price: a unique feature is the automatic sealing shutter with silicone gaskets to protect the optical fibre against dust and dirt.

The CyberHoist/InMotion 3D motion control system made a memorable entry to the North American market by picking up the Rigging Product of the Year Award to add to the PLASA Award for Innovation it collected at its European launch last year.

AV Product of the Year Award went to the latest version of Dataton Watchout - the production and presentation system used in large-scale, high-impact presentations. Watchout 3 is faster and more responsive, and features a completely remodelled user interface, say Dataton.

Philips Lighting was awarded the Lighting Accessory of the Year Award for its MSR Gold 1200 SASE (single ended) Lamp, while the Lighting Tools and Software Product of the Year went to Goddard Design's Virtual Magic Sheet; the Special Effects Product of the Year was won by Le Maitre Special Effects for its Radiance Hazer, and the Widget of the Year Award went to Lex Products LSC-19 Weatherproof Flip Cover.

Promising Prototype Awards went to Swedish manufacturer Wireless Solution for its W-DMX IP65 (Lighting Accessory category), to High End Systems for its Catalyst V4 (Lighting Tools and Software category), to Fisher Technical Services for its F515 High Speed Winch (Rigging & Hardware category), to Rose Brand for Screen Goo (Special Effects Product category) and, finally, to one of the stars of this year's LDI Show - Komaden Corporation of Japan for its Image Mesh LED screen (Lighting/Entertainment category).

We'll have more on Komaden - and more besides - in our LDI review, which will appear in the January 2006 issue of L&SI.
