The MelodyVR ‘backstage experience’ at Wireless 2019
UK - LED lighting specialists, LED Creative supported lighting director Stuart Pring with an array of low energy illumination solutions used to create the MelodyVR ‘backstage experience’ at Wireless 2019.
Working with Wireless 2019, the virtual reality streaming service gave fans the world over the opportunity to get up-close to the action with hip-hop royalty including J-Hus, Stefflon Don, Rae Sremmurd via the MelodyVR smartphone app.
Alongside the front of house live broadcast, Stuart and the team worked on creating the custom-built backstage VR area. Housed in twin interconnected domed structures, the LD used a selection of LED Creative products to light the spaces with artistic effect.
For Dome One, LC Sigma Neon was applied across the interior skeleton of the dome to form a futuristic, neon-web effect. Tracing the structure’s entire framework, the LED Neon delivered subtle yet effective, bold ambient illumination throughout the space.
Dome Two, housed the exclusive artists’ VR backstage area. Billed as a world first, the Dome Two backstage area allowed fans direct access to an immersive 360° experience and the chance to ‘hang out’ with some of the festival’s biggest names. Here the LD made good use of LC Pulse Wands to form the colourful linear backdrop to MelodyVR’s 360° view.
Throughout the venue, Sigma and Pulse Wands were used to full artistic effect, providing strong colour and movement to maximise the creative impact of the design. Control via the LC Byte system, allowed precise management over the total installation.
Commenting on the project, LD Stuart says: “The LED Creative products we used to create the look were perfect for the MelodyVR set. Quick and easy to set up but capable of some great effects, they worked really well as a backdrop to this cutting edge production. Being low energy, the fixtures also meant a noticeably lower amount of heat being generated within the domes, which was pretty handy at a summer festival.”
LED Creative project manager Tim Rees adds: “The ‘plug and play’ nature of our Pulse Wands make them an ideal choice for this kind of location based project. Stuart and the crew made full use of the capabilities of both the wands and the Sigma Neon to create a modern looking feel within the remote structures. A perfect match for this ground-breaking event.”
