UK - The first Light Relief Day is being held today - 24 April 2007 - to support the work of Light Relief, the registered charity for people in the Lighting Industry who have fallen on hard times. This day has been chosen in memory of Light Relief's founder, Tony Gottelier, and the Trustees of the charity hope it will become an annual event.

On this day, the contributing lighting designers will make a contribution to Light Relief in the form of the royalties they receive from the evening's performance. We are hoping that others in the Lighting Department and industry will join with them to support Light Relief.

Light Relief exists to make grants to people in the lighting industry who have fallen on hard times. The charity has already helped many people with grants for their specific practical needs. If anyone would like to know more about Light Relief or want to suggest someone who it may be able to help, please refer to the Light Relief website below.

All personal donations from Light Relief Day will qualify for Gift Aid, and the required form can be easily downloaded from the website. For more information on making a contribution, please visit the website, or alternatively send a cheque to Shane McGreevy at the PLASA office at the e-mail address provided below.

Any amount can really make a difference so please join your Lighting Designer in supporting Light Relief Day.
