Each group were tasked with developing and building a product prototype and creating their business model before marketing their product to potential buyers. This was a six-month process in their final year of study where students took their existing skills and interests and then sought out new knowledge and techniques to enable them to realise their products.
Rob Locke, award leader for Live Event Technology BSc(Hons), said: "This is what makes our students stand out - the ability to learn new techniques and to deliver creative technical solutions, under pressure and on limited funds."
Among the products on show was the GELi, a quick and easy way for lighting designers working on productions to find the lighting filter they require. The lighting filter identifier was designed by James Siddle, David Johnson and Jordan Dormer, who are all studying BSc (Hons) Lighting Design and Technology.
The Aimo, designed by students Dave Shaw, Matt Parker and Ella Ritchie-Purdie, is a tilt and yaw projector platform controlled by a mobile phone app, which is designed to aid the installation of multiple projectors in difficult locations.
Other exhibits included an intelligent load measuring crowd barrier; an RFID tracking system for young performers, an all-terrain flightcase carrier, a modular haze and LED effects fixture, an intelligent flightcase featuring load measurement, humidity and display, a heat harvesting system for lighting fixtures, and an IP-based communication system for theatrical use.
The showcase event was designed and built by the students themselves, further demonstrating their unique mix of knowledge and practical skills in the area of live events.

Last year saw a product originally developed as a student project nominated for a PLASA Award for Innovation - an accolade that speaks for itself. The team at the University of South Wales wish all of the 2014 graduates the best in their future careers."
