The Netherlands - Morning Blossoms is a new musical produced by ODD Continent, fusing the disciplines of opera, ballet, dance, music and drama in a compelling performance about parents, children, families and communities separated by natural disasters.

World premiered at The Spiegel Theatre in Zwolle, Netherlands, the action starts on 10 March 2011, the day before the earthquake off the Pacific coast of T?hoku which triggered devastating tsunami waves up to 40m high sweeping up to 10 Kilometres inland, annihilating large areas of Japan's East Coast and claiming over 15,000 lives.

Acclaimed international lighting designer Yaron Abulafia was an integral part of the talented creative team who have helped deliver the piece directed by Malcolm Rock, and he chose an all Robe lighting rig to help sculpt the drama and the intense range of emotional, atmospheric and location

USA - City Theatrical introduced new technology during LDI 2016, in Las Vegas last week.

SHoW DMX Multiverse provides "unprecedented levels of wireless DMX data transmission in a tiny package", for the first time, allowing the realistic possibility of a professional quality wireless DMX chip in every DMX device. The SHoW DMX Multiverse chip is tiny, low in cost, and has the ability to carry multiple universes of DMX data (as many as five universes in a 2.4GHz transceiver or four universes in a 900MHz transceiver), along with full duplex wireless RDM, and the ability to combine DMX slots from any streaming ACN universe into any of the broadcast universes.

DMXcat is a device used to control, analyse, and test DMX lighting gear. The system combines a small hardware dongle connected by a wireless connection to a suite of Android or IPhone apps. Drawing on a built-in database o

USA - The group World Classic Rockers is made up of musicians who were involved in recording platinum hits, like former Journey and David Bowie drummer Aynsley Dunbar, singer Fran Cosmo from Boston, Greg Walker of Santana fame, and two members of the Born To Be Wild quintet Steppenwolf.

Collectively, the group brings an extra level of juice that comes from "having been there" when they take the stage. This was readily apparent when they performed recently at the Corona Ranch and Rodeo Grounds outside Phoenix. Keeping pace with their high-octane performance was a searing nonstop lightshow created by John Garberson, using a collection of fixtures from Chauvet Professional.

Garberson, owner of Creative BackStage, used a collection of 24 Rogue R2 washes, eight Maverick MK2 Spots and four STRIKE 4 multi formatted warm white LED fixtures to turn the Stageline 260 stage at

UK - Moving lighting specialist Richard Martin Lighting have been whipping up culinary absurdities in new spoof cookery chat show Harry's Hill's Tea Time supporting lighting designer Martin Kempton.

As with TV Burp that ended in 2012, Tea Time is sprinkled with all hallmarks you would expect from the mind of Harry Hill. In each episode Harry is joined by a celebrity guest to assist him in the kitchen as he presents a master class in classics such as chicken a la Tom Jones and sponge finger prison. In between such gastronomic delights, there are the TV clips from the celebrities past tossed with the usual Harry Hill flair as well as inane games and celebrity impersonations.

The first episode was a smorgasbord of comedy and farce featuring Paul Hollywood, who joined Harry for Greek Night. In between BGT favourites Stavros Flatley dancing in to music from

UK - HSL supplied lighting for the popular Bill Kenwright touring production of Save The Last Dance For Me, a rousing 'juke-box musical' by Laurence Marks & Maurice Gran, with some serious and deeper cultural undercurrents accompanying the infectiously catchy vintage bubble-gum pop of Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman - one of the 1960's most successful hit-writing partnerships.

Lighting was designed by Tim Oliver, who balanced the diverse requirements of candy pop, theatre and drama as the story of love juxtaposed with cultural values and differences plays out, complete with a full live band who brought a richness and resonance to the piece which has just concluded a six-month UK tour.

HSL's project manager John Slevin commented, "It's a pleasure working with Tim and the BKL team on another great musical. We had a good efficient prep at HSL and the tour ran smoothly right

USA - It was country music's biggest night, as the CMA Awards celebrated 50 years of honouring the best of country music which included long time Bandit Lites clients Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town and Thomas Rhett.

Garth Brooks' triumphant 2016 was capped off with the highest honours of the night as he was crowned Entertainer of the Year for the fifth time, the last being nearly 20 years ago. Bandit has served as Garth's lighting vendor since the beginning in 1988 and provides the lighting for Brooks' monumental tour, which has been smashing records including 5m tickets sold in two and a half years.

The country star shows no signs of letting up as he was recently awarded his seventh Diamond Award from the RIAA for having seven albums sell more than 10m units, the only artist to do so and surpassing The Beatles. Additionally, Garth launched his own Sirius

Ireland - Critically acclaimed Irish singer-composer James Vincent McMorrow's kicked off his We Move world tour in Dublin on 7 October. Central to the set designed by Conor Jacob are Solaris Mozart RGB LED fixtures. The tour includes the UK, Europe, Canada, and the US, closing 1 December at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles.

Five towers of nine Mozarts each, arrayed in 3x3 clusters serve as individually controlled backdrops for band members and also combine for a canvas of content and special effects. "The whole show is built around them," explains tour LD Conor Jacob. "They travel easy, are robust, IP rated, very versatile, and easily manipulated as a light fixture and for content output.

USA - For most of the 5,000 or so people who attended Robot-Heart, the event was a cool way to spend Halloween weekend. There was nonstop dancing, crazy costumes, artist like WhoMadeWho, a freaky robot, and a scintillating Dougie Lazer designed lightshow that featured an intense beam and strobe display using Chauvet Professional fixtures.

Those involved in putting on the two-day celebration, however, also saw something beyond the free-flowing party. For them, the event was another step on the way back for the hard-pressed Hunts Point section of the South Bronx.

"Robot-Heart is the first event ever held in this building, which used to be a fertilizer warehouse," said Lazer of DNA Illuminations (New York). "The plan is to turn this place into a permanent event venue, so it can help bring people into this neighbourhood. Being part of something like that definitely added an ex

UK - With lighting effects a key part of the drama at any theatre production, Hager's Klik lighting control module (LCM) is ensuring the show does go on at a busy theatre at the Aberdeen City Campus, part of the North East Scotland College.

It was chosen thanks to its ease of installation, flexible use, reliability and cost effectiveness and is now providing enhanced lighting control for both the theatre users and onsite lighting maintenance staff.

With the incumbent lighting control system at the theatre proving increasingly problematic and costly to maintain and repair, the contracted lighting maintenance team led by Daniel Strachan at Mitie, decided to seek out an alternative lighting control solution. Following discussions with electrical wholesaler, Edmundson Electrical, and further liaison with experts at Hager, a suitable LCM answer was identified; one which could b

Chile - Four Robe BMFL WashBeams were used to project bright, crisp, clear artwork, logos and slogans onto the side of the Gran Torre Santiago at the Constanera Centre in downtown Santiago for an event launching the new Chevrolet Cruze car.

At 300m (980 ft.) tall, the Gran Torre Santiago, designed by architect Cesar Pelli, is the highest building in Latin America.

BMFLs positioned approximately 220m away were utilized to achieve this goal, the brainchild of the event's creative director Esteban Icardi, working with lighting designers Tony Amoros and Manuel Guzman.

Esteban's technical production company, Icardi Productions, purchased 12 x BMFL WashBeams the month before the event from Robe's Chilean distributor, VGL, four of which were used to spectacularly brand the tower.

The four BMFL WashBeams were positioned on platforms built on the west side of the tower so t

USA - Even a charity dedicated to the most serious of causes can inject some humour into its events. Anyone who doubts this should have visited Beyond Pink Designer Bra Fashion Show at the Spokane Convention Centre ballroom in mid-October.

This fundraiser was held by Beyond Pink, a non-profit dedicated to early breast cancer detection . As part of its Old Hollywood theme, the event featured 12 different humorous fashion show vignettes, such as Bra Wars, which showcased Star Wars-inspired characters dressed in custom-designed bra costumes.

A collaborative design by the women of Beyond Pink, the fundraiser provided those in attendance with a fun-filled evening. Creating a show-time feeling around the proceedings, which raised roughly $160,000 (in part by auctioning off the bras seen on the runway), was a lighting and video rig designed by Justin Haas of AMP'D Entertainment t

The new modules will form an interchangeable family, allowing lighting designers to simply and easily substitute modules to create a family of compact luminaires suitable for a wide range of lighting applications.

The recently announced Plessey Orion PLWS3000 series module represented a size and performance breakthrough for LED lighting modules giving architectural and industrial lighting designers a new level of design freedom. By integrating the LED and optics into a tiny module, the Orion module delivers over 3000 lumens from a unit just 5.6mm thick and 82mm in diameter. It uses Plessey's Stellar beam forming technology to achieve a powerful and highly directional beam from such a slim module. Key features include im

UK - British LED manufacturing experts Ecoled (the creators of the Light Builder tool) have engineered an innovative LED fitting that combines the full performance functionality of a luminaire with the practicality of a bulb in a discreet, trimless fixture.

The design allows the light to be easily extracted for a post-decorative fit or service; a solution that has not been previously made available until now. Developed from Ecoled's Eyeconic range of miniature and modular LED downlights, the plaster-in version of the Eyeconic Trimless allows the light engine, free of a spring clip, to be inserted or fully retracted from the front using Ecoled's custom tool.

James Cadisch, marketing director at Ecoled, comments, "This is one of the smallest and most powerful luminaires on the market. Coupled with our latest innovation, the Eyeconic Trimless is not only elegant, but also pra

USA - The annual Electric Forest Festival features jam band/EDM music on five stages at the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, MI. But more than that, Electric Forest Festival has an experience mission: it's to enhance the music with a multi-sensory fan experience by locating art installations throughout the (actual) forest in which the fest takes place.

When lighting designer Travis Shirley was tasked this summer (his fifth year with the festival) with lighting the festival's Main Stage - called the Ranch Arena - he knew he also had an experience mission: to offer an equal opportunity lighting rig for both daytime and nighttime artists. To do this, he designed and specified a lighting rig that would cut through daytime ambience and that would also do justice to light up embellishments of the stage design. Longtime festival vendor Christie Lites (rep Robert Roth) worked closely with

USA - Although the Crescent City may be more known for Mardi Gras, it also does one heck of a job on Halloween. This much was readily apparent to the 100,000-plus fans who turned out to New Orleans City Park 27-29 October to enjoy the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience, or Voodoo Fest as it is more commonly known.

A must-stop venue for many of those visitors was the LePlur Stage, epicentre of the festival's EDM centric acts, a stellar group that included The Chainsmokers, Party Favor, Die Antword, DJ Mustard, Black Tiger Sex Machine and Cakes Da Killa, to name a few.

Leaving no doubt that this was a major EDM stage was the eye searing lightshow created by the team at Solomon Group. Their power-packed rig was anchored by a beefy collection of Chauvet Professional fixtures. The production design of the LePlur stage was done by the brother team of Jonathan and Matthew Foucheaux.<

UK - The Enchanted Forest is Scotland's largest outdoor light & sound show; in 2015 it entranced a staggering 62,000 visitors, even more impressive when you realise the location of Faskally Wood near Pitlochry is hardly a densely populated urban hub.

Organisers, The Enchanted Forest Community Trust, have ensured that for each of its 15 years, a fresh theme using the very latest in technology, has been designed to bring the forest and loch to life.

This year appears to be no exception. Running from 29 September to 30 October, the event has so far scooped awards from the Scottish Events Awards (Best Event Marketing), CIPR Pride Awards Scotland (Best Integrated Campaign & Outstanding Small PR Consultancy) and the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Business Star Awards (Business Growth Award) to name but a few. For the sixth year, lighting designers Kate Bonney and Simon Hayes joi
