Sweden - On 10 December, 2010, Clay Paky played a major role in one of the highest profile events in the world - The Nobel Prize Banquet. Held since 1934 in the Blue Hall of Stockholm City Hall annually on the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death, the banquet follows the esteemed Nobel Prize Awards. The event is attended by the King and Queen of Sweden and the other members of the Royal Family, plus approximately 1300 guests, including Nobel Laureates, politicians, dignitaries and other VIPs, as well as seen by the viewing audience of a High Definition television broadcast by Swedish Television (SVT).

South Africa - Robe moving lights took centre stage for the New Age Friendship Celebration Concert in Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban,, a Bollywood spectacular following the Standard Bank International Pro20 international cricket tournament between India and South Africa.

This visual extravaganza was the first ever such post cricket match entertainment event, and also celebrated the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indians in Africa. Over 40,000 cricket fans saw India narrowly beat the Proteas (South Africa), simultaneously making history as the biggest live crowd ever to watch a cricket match on the African continent. UK - Northern Light has announced the appointment of Simon Cooper - affectionately known as "Scoops" - as projects director for the company. Cooper, previously Northern Light's head of projects, has joined the board of the company in a specifically created role.

W-DMX G4 is covered by US Patent #7,432,803, which covers Wireless Solution and its distributors as well as W-DMX OEM Clients.

The license applies to W-DMX G4 BlackBox F-1, BlackBox F-2, WhiteBox F-1, WhiteBox F-2, Micro F-1 and ProBox F-2500. All units are standard with RDM. USA - The Miss America pageant celebrated its 90th anniversary on 15 January at the Theatre for the Performing Arts at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Employed as the primary source of back lighting for the beauty contestants were 16 Martin MAC III Profile moving heads, specified by lighting designer Allen Branton. Chosen for their lumens output, gobo selection and big aperture for a hard-edged fixture, the 1500W MAC IIIs provided full coverage from up-, mid-, and downstage positions, says Felix Peralta, who served as lighting director on the show.

Lighting designer Martin Kempton continues to originate the show, lights are provided by Richard Martin Lighting and supported by TSL Glasgow. This season was operated by BBC board operator Julia Smith.

UK - Clay Paky's Alpha Beam fixtures featured on Squeeze's UK Spot the Difference tour which covered venues ranging from the 100 Club in London to the O2 Manchester Apollo.

Lighting designer Daniel Bocking designed the production with video projections and a rig dominated by 18 Alpha Beam 700s positioned in clusters of three to create a classic rock and roll feel for the band. The lighting was designed and programmed around bespoke video footage developed by content designer Colin Rozee of R2 Digital Productions and projected onto sails suspended from the rear truss.

USA - Winners of the third annual Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) awards were announced 23 February 2011 at the Strategies in Light Conference in Santa Clara, California. Sponsored by the US Department of Energy, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, and the International Association of Lighting Designers, the competition was launched in 2008 to promote excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for general illumination in commercial lighting applications.

This year, 42 commercial LED lighting products were recognised for excellence. Out of 138 entries from 61 different lighting companies, 33 were chosen as 'recognized' winners and four were chosen as 'best in class'. An additional five products were deemed 'notable', a new category created for those NGL entries that might not yet be considered specifiable but nevertheless have at least one out

UK - Two projects that were supplied by Architainment Lighting are hoping to win an award at the upcoming Lighting Design Awards in London this March. Lighting Design International has been nominated for its work on premier office building, The Peak, and Jason Bruges Studio has also been shortlisted for its interactive lighting installation on at Sunderland Station.

Lighting Design International's (LDI) work on premier office headquarters, The Peak, in London's Victoria, has been shortlisted in the Exterior Lighting category. Along with architect, Shephard Robson, and installers, Emcor, Architainment supported LDI as it worked to transform the site's identity. Following a bespoke mock-up of the cladding, LDI specified approximately 700 fixtures of Philips Color Kinetics iColor Cove MX Powercore to light up the outside of the building.

Sweden - Erik Nordlander of Nordlander Produktion has used 18 Martin Professional Tripix 300 LED (RGB) striplights to illuminate a newly rebuilt pedestrian bridge in Kramfors, Sweden in warm shades of white light and occasionally in dynamic colour.

Mill Bridge, a charming wooden bridge used by cyclists and pedestrians alike, is located just outside the city centre of this northern Swedish town. The Municipality of Kramfors sought not only to secure the bridge at night and increase safety across the popular pathway but looked to reveal the beauty of the bridge with an aesthetic nighttime illumination.

Nine 300mm IP66-rated Tripix luminaires are mounted on the underside handrail on each side of the bridge. The Tripix 300 uses single lens tricolor RGB color mixing - a colour wash system that projects a more uniform wash of colour across a surface.

USA - City Theatrical reports that on 19 January 2011, SHoW DMX transmitters and receivers and SHoW DMX equipped PDS-750 TRX power/data supplies were used in the first ever installation of a wireless DMX system at the White House to light the State Dinner for President Hu Jintao of China. The dramatic and innovative lighting design was created and implemented by Al Crawford and his company, Arc3design.

Arc3design's lighting incorporated CTI's new PDS-750 TRX for controlling many of the Philips Color Kinetics ColorBlast 12 TRX LED fixtures used in the system, and he complimented these with battery powered CTI PDS-50 and MasterBlast units driving additional individual ColorBlast 12 TRXs. Singapore - The inaugural Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore brought together young Olympic hopefuls aged 14 to 18 years old from 204 countries competing in 26 events.

The opening and closing ceremonies were held at the site of the Float at Marina Bay, the world's largest floating stage located in the heart of Singapore. A live audience of 27,000 plus the 3,500 athletes and an estimated 2bn television viewers watched a spectacular light, video, laser and fireworks display with the Singapore skyline serving as a backdrop.

The floating stage was surrounded by a ring of shipping containers, a reference to Singapore's prominence as South East Asia's largest harbour. Australia - ENTECH 2011 show organisers have confirmed an agreement with PLASA, the leading international membership body for those who supply technologies and services to the event, entertainment and installation industries.

ENTECH 2011, which takes place at SCEC on 19 - 21 July 2011, will now include a new stream in its educational program featuring international speakers from PLASA's extensive global membership base.

Over 4000 visitors are expected to register for ENTECH 2011, and attendance at the seminars will be offered on a first come, first served basis. Visitors will be able to secure their seats for a seminar via the ENTECH website in the coming weeks.

UK - Blackburn- based lighting rental company HSL has supplied equipment to the first BBC TV show to be produced at the new Media City complex & studios in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester.

Don't Scare The Hare is a new game show produced by Endemol which will be aired in April on BBC1's 5.30 p.m. Saturday slot. Lighting designer is Tom Kinane, with whom HSL has worked on numerous past projects. The show sees two teams of contestants pit their wits and their physical agility in a series of games which involves not scaring a large animatronic hare.

Lighting and colour psychology plays a key role in the production - if the hare takes fright during any of the games, the whole environment turns red for danger.

Syria - Owned by Hamsho Group International, the four star Yafour Hotel & Resort in Syria, located in the nature reserve region of Yafour, outside Damascus, has been built to a high standard - offering a large number of upmarket family facilities and corporate spaces - with Jano For Lighting supplying a technical infrastructure to match.

The company's owner (and lighting designer), Ammar Jano, knew that the white marble façade of the six-storey building would be a suitable projection surface for SGM's IP55-rated Palco 5 architectural LED fixture - and that it would provide a dazzling wash which could clearly be seen from the nearby Damascus-Beirut highway.

In total 18 Palco 5's were mounted - either on the ground, or positioned at roof level - to deliver a stunning crossfade colour wash.
