The Netherlands - The Art of Light, a Netherlands-based creative light designing, programming and operating company, used wysiwyg version R33 to previsualize lighting design and effects for DJ Armin van Buuren and his Armin Only - Intense worldwide tour.

"A completely original lighting design was designed by Marc Heinz. The Art of Light was in charge for all the programming and used wysiwyg R33 to previsualize the tour," said André Beekmans, founder of The Art of Light.

"Because the design includes 388 moving lights, 67 strobes, 100 LED fixtures and some conventional lighting, we needed to pre-program the lighting design in our studio before we started the rehearsals. The six-hour show includes 25 timecode tracks including live performances and dancers.

UK - Lighting director Franck Evin has used 40 ETC Selador Desire D22 fixtures in a London art gallery to make the colours in the artwork 'pop.' "Using ETC Selador LED is a radical way to fix the lights. It looks fantastic," he says.

The challenge Evin faced was that the painter, Berlin-based Jonas Burgert, likes to paint in big, bold colours. To make the colours really stand out, he needed something which would generate bright and vibrant but well balanced light, without the heat which would typically be generated by traditional light sources.

After a number of tests with different fixtures, he decided on the Desire D22 Lustr+ arrays, which creates full colour, perfect for a variety of uses. Set up was made easy by the fact that they can be programmed at the touch of a button on the back of each lamp.

Evin points out that with traditional LED fixtures, it would be

Everyman A Winner - Liverpool's rebuilt Everyman Theatre has won the Riba Stirling Prize for best new building of the year. He added, "It is a ground-breaking example of how to build a daring bold and highly sustainable large public building in a historic city centre.

The theatre - famed for launching the careers of actors including Bill Nighy, Julie Walters and Pete Postlethwaite - first opened in 1964 in the shell of a 19th Century chapel on one of Liverpool's main streets. USA - Emmy-nominated television LD Fred Bock is always filing away information about possible "future uses" when he encounters a new fixture. So when Bock of Ferri Lighting Design & Associates (FLDA) in New York saw the Nexus 4x4 LED panel from CHAUVET Professional at LDI, he made a mental note. "I thought they did a nice job and could be a good replacement for halogen matrix panels," he said. "They seemed like a nice solution looking for a challenge."

Recently, Bock found a challenge that was tailor-made for the Nexus. The red-hot Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer, whose debut album charted at number one in 11 countries, was appearing on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, where Bock is the LD. The band presented him with a concept sketch that called for a wall of quartz tungsten halogen panels, but Bock had a better idea.

Estonia - The Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu, Estonia, has just premiered its own new production of the epic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Phantom of The Opera.

It is only the third occasion in over 25 years of this work that a producing house has been granted the right to produce a new version of the show adding elements of their own interpretation. It's also the first time that the worldwide hit Phantom has been produced in the Baltic states and former Eastern Europe - all of these facts an immense honour for Vanemuine.

The production is directed by Georg Malvius with a lighting design by Pallé Palme utilizing over 100 Robe moving lights.

The two - both Swedish but constantly working internationally - have collaborated on many previous projects. They enjoy a great working relationship and creative chemistry, and both also have a long history at Vanemuine, o

USA - Located at the confluence of the Mississippi and Elk Rivers, the community of Elk River, Minnesota has been called the 'City of Energy', a reference to its long history of harnessing the power of its two mighty waterways. This tradition makes Elk River a fitting home for River of Life Church, a house of worship that radiates positive energy as evidenced by its many outreach programmes and dynamic worship services.

The environment inside the roughly 6,000sq.ft house of worship matches the vibrant character of its services, thanks in no small measure to a high impact lighting design created by Excel AV Group that uses the Rogue R2 Spot moving head and COLORdash Par-Quad 18 LED par-style fixture from Chauvet Professional to engage worshippers. This was the second phase of a long range project; an earlier phase also utilized Chauvet Professional variable white LED fixtures for

The company's Chief Executive Officer Pio Nahum presented a cheque to lighting designer Rick Fisher for Behind the Scenes UK, explaining to the audience that one of the last things approved by the late Pasquale Quadri was this generous contribution to the new charity.

"As an industry, regardless of sector, we all come together to ensure the success of the shows we work on. We work closely together and our colleagues can't help but become our friends. UK - High Wycombe-based lighting rental specialist Siyan has recently expanded its stock with the addition of Robe Pointes and more LEDBeam 100 moving lights, all of which were sent directly out on various jobs for the summer as soon as they were delivered by Robe UK.

The Pointes were purchased for their brightness, versatility and excellent features, and the LEDBeam 100s for their tiny size and because, "They are simply one of the most popular fixtures of the moment," states Siyan's MD Nick Valdez.

He adds that the frequency with which Pointes are appearing on riders was another fact making them realise they needed to have them in stock to augment their existing Robe inventory.

Siyan now has approaching 150 Robe moving lights in its rental inventory - a mix of MMX Spots, Pointes, LEDBeam 100s and LEDWash 600s. One of the reasons they keep buying Robe is for the br
