UK - Litestructures played a leading role in the opening ceremonies for Liverpool, European Capital of Culture 2008. Litestructures supported the Liverpool production team with rehearsal facilities, crew and two 40ft (12m) vertial walls constructed from its LiteDeck staging system.

Litestructures was commissioned to build an unusual stage - a 48ft (15m) by 44ft (13m) vertical wall used to rehearse an aerial 'wall walk'. Working with production manager Simon Barrington and opening events team manager Nick Birkinshaw, the rehearsals took place in the Litestructures Studios in November.

The rehearsal wall proved so successful it was decided to replicate them for the actual event. The result was two walls used as screens (40ft x 40ft) for the ceremonies using over 100 LiteDeck. Being used as screens, all the decks had to be colour matched to a specific sample provided by the show designer. In addition to the wall, Litestructures provided show contractor Star Events Group some bespoke LiteDeck fitted with clear macrolon tops used for the roof top performance on St George's Hall.

Litestructures also supported UK Rigging by providing crew including hire manager Ben Brooks who said, "It was a pleasure to be involved from start to finish in the biggest events Liverpool has ever experienced. Rehearsals were very important on that project as our LiteDeck system was used in a way we had not seen before. It is great to see our hire products being used in different ways that highlights their versatility."
