South Africa - The Mediatech Africa exhibition, which takes place at the Coca-Cola dome in Northriding, Johannesburg, from 20-22 July, will feature Live Outdoor Sound Demos, in which several exhibitors have chosen to demonstrate their state-of the art sound systems and sophisticated staging rigs.

Some of the most technologically advanced sound systems will be able to strut their stuff without the constraints of an indoor demonstration area and visitors will be able to view, hear and experience this outdoor fest between 20-22 July.

Viva Afrika Sound and Light will be demonstrating DAS audio sound systems in the outside area. "The systems we intend to demonstrate are the Aero 8A; Aero 12A and Aero 50 line arrays with a new powered, ultra-compact unit ideal for small to medium applications" says the company's Bernard Pienaar. "The Aero 8A was shown at the recent ProLight&Sound show in Frankfurt along with the LX-212A powered companion subwoofer. This opportunity will allow industry players to hear and see the DAS line array systems".

Audiosure will be participating for the first time in the outdoor area. "The world renowned Martin Audio W8LM Mini Line Array (mini because of the size, not the power!) will handle the mid/high array while the bass will come from four WS218X (double 18", 2000W RMS) high performance subs," says John Silver. "The system will be driven by Martin Audio digital amps, designed for them by Powersoft, and managed by the Martin drive rack, custom designed by XTA. We will also be showing the Allen & Heath digital desks (iLive), running the outside area off of the baby in the range, the R72 with a IDR 16 stage box." Audiosure staff will be on hand as well as guests from Martin Audio.

Matrix Sound will have the Alcons Audio LR16 Line Array System on demo, together with Matrix Sound directors and staff. "It is one of the few occasions where a potential buyer can hear a number of pro systems in the same environment on the same day," says Trevor Peters of Matrix. "This is highly beneficial when making decisions on which PA to purchase as it allows you to compare systems with the sound fresh in your mind (and in your ears!)".

Stage Audio Works will be showing the d&b audiotechnik (loudspeakers), Total Fabrications (Roof Structure) and Aoto LED Screens. "Niche market products cannot be sold from a catalogue," says Stage Audio Works' Shaun Xavier. "The final arbiter of 'democracy for listeners' is the human ear and this can only be realised by an outdoor demonstration area."

Surgesound will be demonstrating EAW's new KF 740 series medium format line array with the new double 21" SB 2001. Powering these units will be Lab.gruppen's award-winning new PLM 20000 and 10000 with Lake processing on board. "The outdoor area gives audio professionals, and potential clients the opportunity to experience the PA system in a real world situation," says managing director Andrew Rowan, who will be in attendance.

Look out too for Lighting&Sound International magazine, exhibiting at Mediatech on stand C35.
