"The building has a long range visibility and can be seen from the main expressway," explains Illuminating Concept's Kenneth Klemmer, director of design on the project. "Originally they were looking at a white light illuminated theatre exterior but eventually decided on a concept to illuminate the building in colour with colour sequences, yet still provide the requisite amount of emergency white light."
Approximately 40 IP65 rated Exterior 200 colour changers from Martin Architectural were integrated into the theatre's perimeter balcony handrail to provide virtually unlimited colour choices for the roughly 30 foot high façade walls. The programmable 150W fixtures are mounted on vertical supports and elevated 7 feet above the walkway surface that also carries power and data. A custom sconce applied to the building gives shafts of white uplight as well as egress and white light onto an exit balcony that runs around the theatre.
The AMC Theatre's dynamic lighting scheme was programmed on a Hog PC with fader wing and uploaded to an ELC showSTORE playback controller.
