Clarity director Stuart Graham again turned to Martin Audio, his first choice loudspeaker supplier, for the components in The Underground. (Martin Audio presented the company with an award for 'Best New UK installer' at the recent PLASA Show).
Four Blackline F12s are flown from the ceiling above the stage (on either side of the scanner lighting) while a pair of WS2As, ground-stacked on top of each other, have been recessed into the wall to handle the sub frequencies. A further Blackline F8 enclosure provides the DJ with his reference sound. The system has been tuned using Martin Audio's dedicated DX1 digital loudspeaker management system.
Powering the system, Clarity has opted for QSC amplification, with an RMX4050HD assigned to the Wavefront subs, an RMX2450 driving the Martin Audio F12 mid/highs and an RMX850 running the F8 reference monitor. The front-end DJ playback sees the reutilisation of the existing Vestax decks, augmented by a Denon DN-X400 mixer, which includes two digital outputs to allow the DJ to record digitally to a CD recorder or minidisc, and a Denon DN-D4000 rackmount CD/MP3 player.
Stuart Graham says: "We use Martin Audio because their products are excellent and the support we get from the company is second to none. I can put Martin Audio into any situation and it will sound good - the Students Union are over the moon."
