Working for production company Big Blue Media Ltd., LD Rob Merrilees designed the stand around MCL-NEC's new inventory of Color Kinetics ColorBlaze 48's and ColorBlast 12's, using 18 of the former and 24 of the latter.
ColorBlaze 48 is an intelligent high-performance LED 'border light' that provides far-reaching casts of colour and colour-changing effects, while ColorBlast 12 is a stylish, compact wall-washing light that generates rich, uniform colours and colour changing effects - ideal instruments to fuel the creative imagination of Rob Merrilees.
The designer used the 18 ColorBlaze effects to both illuminate and colour-change the four feature areas, while the Profiles were detailed for product enhancement. The ColorBlast 12's, meanwhile, creatively illuminated the glass panels on the hospitality area upper deck.
These effects were complemented on the 25m x 25m stand by 22 x 400W MBI Floods and 12 ETC S4 Junior Zoom Profiles to highlight the 54 bikes, while on the overhead truss further MBI 400 power floods were used. All the lighting was controlled from an Avolites Azure desk. "The LED ColorBlaze units, with their 16.7 million colours, high brightness, low maintenance and low power consumption are the ideal fixture for this type of environment," explained Rob. "We simply dial up the exact colour required, with no gel-cutting and no call-out to replace lamps."
Having successfully used both the CK Blaze and Blast effects at Athens Olympic 2004 and subsequent events, MCL-NEC expect to increase their rental fleet to meet the ever-increasing demands.
