Mark will describe his and Jonathan's shared passion and interest in the relationship between light, dark and architecture and the philosophy behind some of Speirs + Major's early work. He will conclude with an account of the projects carried out since Jonathan's retirement from Speirs + Major, which they co-founded, demonstrating the continued quality, innovation and passion delivered by the practice.
In recognition of Jonathan Speirs' contribution to lighting design and the built environment, Glasgow City Council has most generously offered the use of the Satinwood Suite, situated in Glasgow City Chambers, for this lecture.
The intention is for the Jonathan Speirs Memorial Lecture to be an ongoing event, seeking to promote lighting design in Scotland, building on Jonathan's considerable legacy. Speirs and Major has offices in Edinburgh and London.
