Liechtenstein - Neutrik, the world's leading manufacturer of audio connectors for entertainment applications - has celebrated its 30th anniversary. In June, the company invited L&SI out to its brand new headquarters and factory in Schaan, Liechtenstein, the tiny Principality sandwiched between Switzerland and Austria. It was here in 1975 that the company began with just two people in an old stables building.

Today, the company employs 650 people in subsidiary companies around the world including the USA, UK, Switzerland, France, Japan, China and Germany, and has a network of exclusive distributors in more than 80 countries. CEO Werner Bachmann, one of those original two staff members, heads up a truly international company which is tackling the move into digital technology head-on with its EtherCon RJ45 connectors, the new USB and FireWire chassis connectors, and its latest OpticalCon range of optical connectors. "We at Neutrik are determined to continue the remarkable success story of the past three decades," says Bachmann.

The company's product range inlcudes XLR connectors, plugs, jacks, speaker-connectors, patch-panels, power connectors and BNC-style connectors, as well as special connectors for industrial applications. Whilst the increasingly digital-looking future is being addressed by Neutrik, Bachmann also remains convinced that copper connections - reliable, easy to use and affordable - will maintain a substantial market share for some years to come.

With such a wide range of products in its portfolio - roughly 1,500 currently selling - the company has its work cut out, producing a weekly output of around 1.5 million connectors of varying kinds - from the Schaan facility alone.

With an eye always on the future, the new headquarters has been designed to offer room for expansion, and the inclusion of state-of-the-art technologies such as its robotic high-bay storage and retrieval system and the ongoing commitment to the automated manufacturing processes, give an extra edge to this 30-year-old's efficiency.
