The link from the stage box is fibre optic to ensure that integrity of signal is matched by high-speed, zero-latency data transfer. The only question mark at design stage was over the flimsy plastic 'LC' connectors routinely supplied with fibre optic cable, which certainly wouldn't be up to the rigours of touring. The Neutrik stand at PLASA 2005 provided the solution.
"We had just launched our OpticalCon connectors as part of our move into the data transfer market," says Phil Gott, Neutrik UK's northern area sales manager. "Alex Cooper, head of R&D at Midas, and a loyal Neutrik customer, was so impressed with the concept that he left the booth saying it was just what he needed for a revolutionary new hush-hush project.
"Several months later we received a call from the M7 consortium of top UK PA rental companies, requesting a demonstration of OpticalCon at Midas's Kidderminster factory. We signed a non-disclosure agreement, put OpticalCon through its paces and the Midas team were hooked."
