UK - ETC officially launches its powerful Congo lighting-control console at PLASA 2005. Sneak-previewed at last year's PLASA and now shipping worldwide, Congo offers seamless integration of conventional and moving light control, say the company. The first system to combine ETC and Avab expertise and engineering, Congo earned its stripes at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, where four final beta test boards controlled hundreds of automated and conventional luminaires, 16 media servers, 15,000 channels of lighting effects and 37 universes of DMX. Since then it has found favour throughout Europe, being ordered by and installed in theatres, TV studios and multi-purpose venues alike.

Also new is ETC's IES Matrix Mk II sine wave dimming system, bringing higher density, improved efficiency and an extended choice of channel ratings to the highly successful and reliable Matrix standard. This new design includes a frequency boost to improve efficiency to 98%, better than many traditional SCR dimmers. IES sine wave dimming, used wherever quiet operation and related energy efficiencies are a concern, is installed in TV studios and theatres alike.

Also on show will be new additions to the compact, budget-minded Smart Solutions family, to bring distributed dimming within everyone's reach. Both SmartBar and SmartModule plug straight into a domestic mains circuit, with SmartModule offering complete flexibility of dimming anywhere on the set, ever on the floor under the stage. Plus there are exciting developments for the Source Four, which is still setting the global standard for brightness and efficiency.
