John Carroll of Sountracs (right) presents the DAMSTY trophy to John Midgley of Beyerdynamic.
The audio industry’s annual charity sailing event took place over the last weekend of September. In glorious weather eleven, matched, boats sailed a series of four races in the Solent. With three firsts and a third, Beyerdynamic was declared the overall winner, with T.M. Audio from Holland in second place. Other participants, in alphabetical (not result) order, were Arup Acoustics, Brahler, The Elizabeth Foundation, HW International, Martin Audio, Neutrik, Sound Advice, Sound Foundation and Vistek.

After two races on Saturday and putting into Cowes, IOW, the crews repaired to the Island Sailing Club for a well-earned supper - and to contribute to the charity raffle. Originally begun in 1989 as PASTY (Professional Audio Sailing Trophy) with Dave Martin on the winning boat, the event was revived in 1990 and the name changed in memory of that first winner. Since the revival, all proceeds have been donated to The Elizabeth Foundation, a pre-school for profoundly deaf children, with the total raised to date just on £50,000.
