UK - The Riccallish Allsorts, a community theatre group from Riccall, Yorkshire, began planning their 2005 Christmas pantomime early in October. An important feature was to be the new stage, for which a grant had been provided. Value for money was an obvious factor in finding the ideal company to provide the equipment. Ken Davison, of the Allsorts, requested a quote from Maltbury.

As staging requests go, this one was fairly simple. A stage was needed that could be easily assembled, but also give a professional appearance. Metrodeck was the perfect system to replace their ageing chipboard stage. Affordable and simple, the Metrodeck could be quickly assembled by any member of the group to create a professional stage, and was also easy and quick to store.

The staging provided was used in conjunction with a trussing structure and drapes to create a self-sufficient proscenium-arch type stage unit, which could easily be used in the local school hall to create a comfortable viewing area for the audience and a professional performance area. It is also versatile enough for the group to use for future performances, and in different venues. Davidson was very happy with the new staging: "We'd previously built a stage ourselves - from chipboard - which on average took two hours to assemble - and check it was safe. It creaked, it groaned, and safety was always a concern. Our new stage went together in 30 minutes flat - leaving us a lot more time for getting the rest of the production together. Everyone could help put it together, and it was really solid during the performance - no-one noticed any 'floor noise' - which is exactly what we wanted!"

The Metrodeck package eliminated safety concerns, creating an altogether more professional working area for the Riccallish Allsorts.
