Lighting Effects Distribution has received enormous interest in the Color Stream effect since demonstrating it at The Bar Show back in June, and Julian Healy confirmed at an early stage that he would be using strips ranging in length from 500mm to 2000m, giving him in excess of 100m of tubing in total. These have been deployed in such a way as to emphasise the vertical and horizontal lines of the gantries, handrails and towers. The shorter 500mm tubes are also being used to form curves that describe the arcs, framing the composite LED screen in the centre of the set.
"Traditionally we might have used fluorescents or neon for this, but the Pixeon tubes offer us much greater versatility, as we can change the colours and make chases and patterns," explained Healy. "This has given the set a real impact, and complements Al Gurdon's lighting in a way that we could not have achieved before."
The display will form part of an adventurous LED-based design, which builds on the concept realised by last year's show designer, A1 Set's Andy Walmsley. For this series, Julian Healy has notched up the production values. He explained: "The show was such a success last year I think it was important not to throw away Andy Walmsley's signature look. Instead, we have tried to take the essence of what Andy did and move it on."
Production manager for the reality TV series is once again Mandy Lee, with programme direction by Jonathan Bullen.
