Abstract, winner of the Best Large Stand award for its atmospheric club environment, showed the new VRX bar scanner fixture, which is wall-mounting - obviating the need for any complicated or obtrusive rigging. Its motorized mirror, which flips round and up-lights by day, skews round to emit from the front (or side) by night. Abstract also showed its light screens, which have a mirror finish when off, and any of 10 different colours when illuminated. There’s been a revolution at AC Lighting: they’re now applying their unique expertise to handling audio equipment. AC Audio lists over 50 leading brands, and it will be interesting to see how this affects the traditional audio dealer establishment. On the lighting side, there were two significant additions: the new software for the Jands Event is a major enhancement with full keyboard syntax access and streamlined cue lists, making the building and storing of cues faster and easier. It’s not a Hog, but at the price, who cares? Also being highly pumped up, the new V4 software for the GrandMA range, which gives full network support for multi-desk/user set-ups.

Active Colour Systems, well known for its lasers, previewed a new three-headed colour laser, available in the new year, using two 20mW red and one 30mW green beam. It also showed its new 20mW green laser for mobile DJs.As always, the ADB stand was attracting a good crowd of visitors to explore the company’s wide range of established and new products. This year’s big attraction was the highly innovative Axis zoom profile and Axis Automated. The Axis features fingertip control of 360° rotating shutters and gobos and access to all controls from any position around the spotlight. The sleek, ergonomic unit is available as a 15-30° and 25-50° zoom profile. Despite being wowed by the Axis profile, there was still room for excitement over the Axis Automated version. Due on the market in about six months’ time, the Axis profile can be quickly retrofitted to become a fully motorized light source aimed at the theatre/TV market. This will generate enormous interest from those seeking a noise-free fully-featured motorized spot. Look out for it!

Amptown Lichttechnik has developed a solid reputation with lighting designers working in Europe and has followed its original Posi-Spot, dating from the 80s, with the 1200W HMI Controlite PML, the Controlite Washlite series and the PML Zoom profile spot, equipped with a motorized shutter system and 1:4:3 zoom optics.

Andolite was exhibiting its new Touring Dimmer Unit for the first time, which comes as a 24-, 36- or 48-way unit. It features a tilting lid and inclined Socapex outlets among other features.

It was hard to miss the Anytronics stand, intensely lit by the new Anycolour range of products which use low-cost, recyclable fluorescent tubes to provide precise and dynamic RGB colour control of lighting for use in large area illumination. Managing director Bob Hall was kept a busy man as this highly cost-effective new range attracted an enthusiastic audience - expect news of major installation projects in the near future.

Apollo Design Technology’s outside sales manager, John Hunter, reported that the company was having a great show and loved receiving L&SI - particularly for the English humour! On show were additional colours that have been added to Apollo’s dichroic colour range, and a new scroller - the CompSpec 2.

Artistic Licence featured its brand new Net-View software for PDAs. Designed for the Art-Net Ethernet Standard, Net-View analyses the DMX in transport over the network; features include an oscilloscope display which can provide channel data from any point on the network.
