One of the dominant themes of the December forum will be a discussion of Ofcom's proposals, as part of the planned TV switchover from analogue to digital, to sell-off the radio frequencies currently used by the UK entertainment industry. If the sell-off goes ahead as planned, it will leave the UK live events sector without a licence - a major blow for the industry.
Thanks to a strategy suggested by PLASA and its political lobbyists Ranelagh, BEIRG is now lobbying Government to highlight the damage that the spectrum sell-off will have to a sector that currently contributes almost £15 billion annually to the economy.
Representatives from PLASA's political lobbyists will be at the Forum to explain the key objectives of the campaign and to secure interest in and support for BEIRG's concerns and for the solutions it proposes.
PLASA and BEIRG are urging everyone in the industry involved in the sale, hire or use of radio microphones, in-ear monitoring systems, talkback systems or wireless links to get on-board and support this campaign.
The lobbying comes on the back of several major initiatives being developed by PLASA, including qualifications for the sector and a major membership restructure. For further information please contact: Ruth Rossington, at PLASA by telephoning: +44(0)1323 410335, or e-mail her at the address below.
