Over the last year, PLASA has been working closely with the industry and a range of government bodies to develop a scheme that will not only serve the specific needs of the industry, but also achieve national recognition.
Rigging assessors are currently undertaking assessment pilots to demonstrate that they meet the standards within the National Rigging Certificate, and each assessor is also working towards achieving an A1 Award - the nationally recognised award in assessment.
Rigging Assessors and members of the Rigging Advisory Group will be present on the PLASA Stand (FF1) during the course of the PLASA Show and will be able to provide further details of the scheme and how it will work. Visitors to the stand will be able to find out more about the assessment entry routes and an outline of what a candidate needs to know and understand, as well as the practical rigging skills that they would be expected to demonstrate during their assessment.
To date, over 500 people have registered their interest in the National Rigging Certificate, which has also attracted the support of the major venues, production companies and organisations within the industry. The scheme will 'go live' in early 2007, when the first candidates undertake their assessments.
