The STLA/9 from Renkus-Heinz.
UK - PLASA 2004 will see the first UK appearance of the new 3-way, high output line array system that combines two of Renkus-Heinz's unique technologies. The system made its European début on the Stevie Wonder-headlined Molde Jazz Festival in Norway last month. The STLA/9 is the lightest 'full size' self-powered line array module available, say Renkus-Heinz. With 139dB peak SPL broadband per module, the STLA/9 can handle the largest sound reinforcement applications - yet the self-powered version weighs in at under 200lb (90kg) per cabinet.

The new internally tri-amplified cabinet builds on the success of the company's initial line array offering, the PN102/LA, and uses many of its technologies. The low frequencies are handled by two high-powered 12" woofers, whose horizontal spacing assures horizontal pattern control down to as low as 200Hz.

Renkus-Heinz's CoEntrant Driver Topology features in the mids and highs, handled by two newly developed CDT1.5 drivers. It features an advanced 6.5" carbon fibre cone for the midrange, and a neodymium HF driver with a 2.5" voice coil and titanium diaphragm for high power handling with low distortion. The CDT1.5s are arranged vertically and each drives its own Isophasic Plane Wave Generator (IPWG) lens with Path Length Equalization Technology, feeding a common 90-degree waveguide. Forthcoming 60 degree and 120 degree inserts will increase dispersion options for long-throw or nearfield applications.

The mid/high CoEntrant Topology ensures highly consistent and lobing-free horizontal dispersion over the cabinet's wide 45Hz to 18kHz bandwidth. One STLA/9 weighs in at less than 200lbs including amplifier modules, and flies quickly from just two points per cabinet. Fully captive flying hardware with quick release pins allows for three angular splay options, making flying a breeze. Rigging and coverage angle set-up is assisted by Renkus-Heinz AimWare for Windows software.

Ralph Heinz, VP of R&D, comments: "We have a unique Renkus-Heinz take on the line array concept, combining two technologies with lightweight, high power amplification. The result is proving to be a stunning success and we're delighted that it's on show in the UK for the first time."

Renkus-Heinz can be found on the stand of UK distributor beyerdynamic GB Ltd - H50.
