UK - In April 2004, Darren Gardiner from LSFX first visited the site of a former nightclub in the seaside resort of Portstewart, with the daunting task of specifying a new sound system for a new, purpose-built church. The congregation of the Baptist Church had outgrown their current home in Portstewart, and purchased the former nightclub with a view to demolishing it and building a new worship centre for their growing church community.

After a lengthy consultation process LSFX was awarded the contract. In the first instance, Gardiner contacted KV2 Audio's Andy Austin Brown and they started working on a scheme that would not only meet the church's requirements but would in many ways exceed them. LSFX had had used KV2 Audio products with success in a number of different venues over the past year, and both Austin Brown and Gardiner agreed that the main system should be flown from the roof truss at the front of the church with delay/infill speakers being flown half way down the main sanctuary to cover the overflow hall. As the church has a very active praise band, subwoofers had to be incorporated into the project: for this Gardiner and Austin Brown decided on six of the ES1.5 single 15" sub.

The configuration of the system was to have a single ES 1.0 per side at high level, complemented by an ES 1.5 per side flown. The other four subs were to be ground-stacked left and right of the church. The overflow area to the rear of the church was covered by two KV2 EX10 active speakers. The main system is processed via an XTA DP226 processor with a Cloud Z8 Zoner covering the foyer and meeting rooms. The band members could not wait to try the system out and with some training and a bit of encouragement from the team at LSFX they began to play in earnest, describing it as "a joy to operate".

All were impressed with the power and accuracy of such a small system, and also that the system performed as well at low levels as it did at high levels. Austin Brown and Gardiner were both delighted with the outcome, as is the congregation.
