USA - The new Electro-Voice SB2A powered 12-inch subwoofer, introduced at NAMM 2008, eliminates the need for external system processing and amplification, addressing the demand for lightweight high performance portable sound systems, says the company.

Featuring dual 350 watt amplifiers, the SB2A's switchable powered speaker output can drive either an external 8 ohm passive subwoofer or full range loudspeaker.

Typical SB2A-powered system setups include: with a ZX1-90, as a standalone PA that fits in the front seat of your car; in clusters with SX100/300; with a passive SB122, for portable lightweight sub extension to replace bulky 15-inch two-way systems (two 16kg packages vs. one 40kg package); with an additional powered top box (such as the SXA100+).

The SB2A shares the same injection-molded enclosure as EV's popular passive SB122 subwoofer. Both utilise the EVS12S woofer,

Cyclo fittings can be controlled in stand-alone operation or via DMX. For simp

UK - Artistic Licence has announced the launch of its latest DMX lighting tool, DMX-Fix. Artistic say this is a solution to "those occasional nasty compatibility problems - the ones that usually occur when the crew should all be relaxing in the bar!".

DMX-Fix aims to solve compatibility problems arising from products not quite up to speed with the latest advances in DMX512 and RDM (Remote Device Management). DMX-Fix is a combined DMX512 splitter and data filter, which automatically removes any 'clever' information from the data stream, ensuring compatibility with older or out of specification fixtures and dimmers.

The DMX512 input is optically isolated and the product offers five independent DMX512 outputs. The product performs a number of automatic functions, including stripping all non-standard start codes, passing only lighting level data; correcting stop bits, en

UK - Following the success of its S4 Racked 'n' Ready wireless microphone system, Trantec has now applied the same concept to its S5 range. This turnkey approach packs "everything you need into one easily transportable flightcase, combining world-class wireless with the convenience of a system that's always ready to roll".

The system is available in two formats, allowing the user to take advantage of the two price points on offer. Computer monitoring software comes as standard so users benefit from realtime system status. The S5.3 is already being recognised as a versatile performer and is proving particularly popular with semi-pro bands and theatre productions, says Trantec.

The S5.5 system caters for larger projects and can simultaneo

Germany - K.M.E. will introduce additions to its Versio series at ProLight & Sound in Frankfurt.

Versio VSS 15 is a completely digital system unit integrating a 15" subwoofer and three Class D amplifiers (1 x 750W + 2 x 500W) with a digital signal processor 24bit / 48kHz and weighs just 26kg. The analogue input signal is digitalised directly inside the input amplifier using an intelligent 24bit AD converter and remains digital to the Class D amplifiers' output. The new technology avoids conversion losses, increases the utilizing dynamic range and achieves a much better sound quality due to a precise reproduction of the audio signal, says the company.

Versio SD 3 and SD 4 are DSP-controlled active PA systems, while the Versio VL 240 is a small, powerful active 8" + 1" loudspeaker with two digital amplifiers of 200 W RMS bass/mid and 50W RMS power, which can be us

UK - Artistic Licence has announced the launch of Rail-Flip. Housed in a DIN-Rail enclosure, Rail-Flip can switch four universes of DMX512 between A and B inputs.

The primary purpose of the product is the automatic 'fail-over' switching between two lighting consoles. In automatic mode, the product senses data on its 'A' input. If DMX512 stops on any universe, the 'B' input is selected. Rail-Flip also features detail configuration. This allows, for example, the user to configure how to handle data returning on the 'A' input.

Rail-Flip can also be switched manually which allows it to be used as a source selector between different lighting positions.

The product can be cascaded to increase the number of universes. Status and data indicators show both data activity and switch status. Rail-Flip uses electromechanical relays which ensure that the product will fail safe in a power

Germany - Germany-based manufacturer axxent will introduce a new one-channel, 400W amplifier in a 2U, 19" chassis at the forthcoming ProLight&Sound exhibition in Frankfurt (12-15 March 2008).

The amplifier features a low impedance output, as well as 50/70/100V constant voltage outputs. The outputs may be used simultaneously as long as the total of 400W loudspeaker load is not exceeded, say the company.

Under normal working conditions, the amplifier operates quietly, benefiting from its passive convection cooling. When the maximum performance is required and its passive cooling ribs exceed a given temperature, a quiet and controlled fan aids the cooling system. This feature makes the AX-1400T power amplifier an ideal choice for churches and other noise-sensitive applications.

All output connectors are fully touch proof isolated to comply with European Safety Standard EN6

Germany - Kling & Freitag will present three new products at ProLight & Sound 2008. After extensive research, K&F reports that it has developed a line array that "unifies - without compromises - aspects of modern line array technologies into a premium quality full-range system". Every element is equipped with two 10" chassis and a tweeter unit with three 1" neodymium drivers.

Two versions of the vertical 7° coverage system - with 77° and 100° horizontal coverage - will be offered; they are combinable with one another, depending on use.

Kling & Freitag will also introduce the smallest speaker in their product range. The passive two-way speaker is equipped with a 5" bass chassis and a 1" dome driver with a coupled 'Waveguide'. With its uniform and wide coverage, the system is ideally suited for near field applications, says the company.<

USA - New EAW Commercial CAM160 and CAM80 integrated audio mixers-power amplifiers are outfitted with comprehensive input/output facilities and feature sets to provide exceptional versatility from a highly cost-effective package.
