Profile Awards to celebrate theatre and TV lighting design
- Details
Alongside eight Theatre awards and six TV awards there will be a Student Virtual Lighting Design competition and the Richard Pilbrow Lifetime Recognition Award in the name of Richard Pilbrow, by kind agreement with Richard’s family and sponsored by Theatre Projects.
The Theatre Awards are judged by UK theatre critics and are not open to nominations, whereas the Television Awards are judged by broadcast professionals and can be nominated by anyone. Winners will receive special trophies - Patt 23M fixtures on stands, a miniature LED version of the iconic Rank Strand Pattern 23 profile fixture modelled and produced in limited amounts by Hugh Chinnick.
“Sponsorship take-up has been incredible,” says Durham Marenghi. “The Headline Sponsor is Ayrton, with the TV Awards being sponsored by ChamSys, ELP, LCR, Light Initiative, Roxxlight and Version 2 Lights. The Theatre Awards are sponsored by Chauvet, Elation, ETC, Fix8, GLP, TSL, SLX and Vari-Lite; the pre-show bar is sponsored by Ambersphere Solutions.”
He continues: “The awards ceremony will be an informal event with cabaret-style seating and plenty of opportunity to network and catch up with friends and peers, with at least half of those in attendance being professional lighting designers.”
For the Student Virtual Lighting Design Award, lighting design students and programmers from UK colleges are invited to create a two-minute animation using WYSIWYG 2023 or LD Capture visualisation software, to music of their choice in a 3D model of the Royal Albert Hall provided by Durham Marenghi and populated with an Ayrton fixture virtual rig.
The student entries will be judged by the professional Profile Awards TV and Theatre nominees, and the student nominees will receive an invitation to The Profile Awards event. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on 6 June; these awards are sponsored by AC-ET.
