Australia - Taking place from mid-February to early March, WorldPride is a global LGBTQIA+ festival that has been staged since 2000, with cities vying to be chosen as the host. Licensed by InterPride, this year's WorldPride took place in Sydney, making it the first-ever host city in the Southern Hemisphere.
The event showcased more than 200 celebrations of queerness and diversity on the world stage, which included the popular Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) events. A range of other festival events were also on offer including arts, sports, theatre, concerts, parties, and First Nations programming.

Argentina - AV equipment supplier Macaio Argentina provided rental company Buenos Aires Live Show (BALS) with 42 Claypaky Scenius Unico and 48 Claypaky Sharpy Plus, which were deployed at the Masters of Rock 2023 heavy metal music festival held at Parque Roca in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 28 April.
Masters of Rock was headlined by KISS, Deep Purple, Scorpions and Helloween, with local act Horcas opening. As Masters of Rock is an international festival, the local adaptation was in the charge of LD Gaspar Potocnik, who was hired by the local production company Ake Music. The technical structure was provided by BALS.

Designed by architects Mossoux Architecten, the new, high-tech, ultra-modern store has more than 700sqm of floor space and comprises a sales unit, mechanics unit, maintenance unit, high-end race bicycles unit, basement storage and offices.

Spain - With a career that spans three decades, and having topped the country’s national album chart nine times, Sergio Dalma is one of Spain’s best-selling recording artists. Last year saw him tour his latest album, Alegria (Joy), throughout Spain and South America. Spanish rental company Use Sonido supplied DiGiCo Quantum consoles at both the front of house and monitor positions, purchased from DiGiCo’s Spanish distributor, RMS Pro Audio.
“We started working with Sergio Dalma over 15 years ago,” says Use, Use Sonido’s owner. “We have worked on many tours with him, always using DiGiCo consoles at front of house, and more recently we have them at the monitor world, too.”

USA - Popular Philadelphia-based jam band Lotus evolved their own distinctive ‘jambatronica’ sound and style and brought this to the instrumental bedrock of the jam genre.
Lighting designer Scott Huston has been crafting Lotus’s lighting since 2004. It is a job he loves and combines with his thriving carpentry business, which keeps him busy and creative when off the road.
The band has always had a penchant for lighting and for their 2023 tour, the first full touring stint since the pandemic, Scott specified Robe MegaPointes and TetraX moving lights as part of a floor-based specials package going in ‘under’ house top rigs at each venue.
Scott has loved the MegaPointe ever since he first used the fixture about six years ago, and has specified them ever since, both for Lotus shows and festival floor packages. He has never been without some MegaPointes in

USA - Christopher Bauder, a light artist from the design and art studio WHITEvoid, and KiNK, an electronic music producer, have collaborated to create Axion, a large-scale outdoor art installation and multi-sensory experience. Axion is the centrepiece of Transfix, the world's largest immersive art experience that opened at Resorts World in Las Vegas in April.
Located on four acres at the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, Transfix includes over 50 interactive, kinetic, illuminated artworks - living works of art - by artists from around the globe. The experience invites participants on a journey of personal creative discovery, encouraging guests to engage with each piece in their own unique way.

UK - Award-winning lighting designer Tim Routledge and a talented team of creatives and technical specialists - working across multiple disciplines - helped deliver a slick, streamlined 2023 Eurovision Song Contest event at Liverpool Arena in the UK on 13 May.
Tim utilised over 600 Robe moving lights for his design which comprised approximately 2,500 luminaires plus 2 kilometres of LED tape, clocking up 17,500 individual light sources when counting the individual pixel cells of the various fixtures, all supplied via lighting equipment contractor, Neg Earth Lights.
For his first ESC, he collaborated closely with set designer Julio Himede, known for his work on major music broadcast shows like MTV’s VMAs and EMAs amongst others, also working on his first ESC.

USA - Tom Jones kicked off his international tour with 16 North American performances lit by Bandit Lites. Jones performed two shows at the Hollywood Bowl before making his way to Nashville, Texas, Florida, New York, Charleston and Atlantic City.
The tour relaunched a previous production design from Mark Cunniffe as well as programming from Tim Fawkes. Bandit Lites provided a floor package comprised of Claypaky B-EYE K20 fixtures and a grandMA 2 console for control.
“The Claypaky Eye K20 unit has quite a bit of versatility within itself that makes this a great unit to use as a floor light,” explained LD Keith Hoagland. “We have 29 of these doing just that: they are part of a beautifully designed floor package that has so many looks for this show.”

Indonesia - Bobby Therry is a lighting designer at the Lasika Productions Group, a busy rental company based in Surabaya, supplying lighting, LED screens, audio, trussing and rigging to many different events. He personally specialises in lighting the specific field of weddings, together with some corporate shows.
Sixteen Tetra2s have recently joined the company’s rental stock, and Bobby has enjoyed incorporating these fixtures into his designs where possible. He recently utilised them for the wedding of Larry and Felicia at the Westin Grand Ballroom, Surabaya.

Sweden - The latest addition to the Gothenburg skyline is Kineum, a 28-storey beacon of glass and steel that can be seen from miles around. The building houses Jacy’z hotel and resort – the latest venture from Swedish hospitality entrepreneurs, ESS Group – which offers a Nordic take on an upscale Las Vegas resort with all of the opulence and pizzazz, but not a single slot machine in sight.
Instead, guests can choose from three restaurants and a pool club and spa on the top two floors, plus award-winning conference facilities, a hotel-within-a-hotel on floors 17 and 18, a gym and a secret speakeasy bar. Austria - Opening in 1741, the Burgtheater in Vienna is the national theatre of Austria. Over the years, its theatre company has created a distinctive style and speech unique to Burgtheater performances. The Burgtheater has a full events calendar, holding performances nightly except for Christmas Eve and Good Friday while rehearsing a different performance each morning. During the summer break, it’s used for dance performances and musical concerts.
The Burgtheater and its three affiliated venues - Akademietheater, Kasino and Vestibül - and a permanent ensemble of actors and actresses play a seminal role in the German-speaking theatrical world. It hosts the largest annual audience in continental Europe, welcoming approximately 400,000 theatre-goers to over 900 performances.

Europe - After a lengthy wait due to COVID-19 restrictions surrounding the tour’s original dates, Sheffield metalcore titans, Bring Me The Horizon, were finally able to perform for their dedicated European fanbase.
Having worked with the Clair Global Group last year for their Reading & Leeds headline shows before US and Australian runs, the band’s touring crew recently enjoyed another faultless vendor experience.
Production manager Mitch Gee and tour manager Tim Boardman had worked with Eighth Day Sound’s Stuart Wright many times previously.

UK - For the 67th Eurovision Song Contest staged at the Liverpool M&S Bank Arena, multi award-winning lighting designer, Tim Routledge and his team were, in addition to all 37 performances, responsible for every aspect of the lighting including presentation states, commentator boxes, voting sequences, and the half-time and opening shows for the two semi-finals and Grand Final.
This massive undertaking was based on briefings, renders and notes - mostly delivered remotely - and a 20-minute meeting with each of the countries’ delegations in March. “We had to focus on the key points from each to realise their design wishes, and work fast to deliver everything within the time frame,” says Routledge.

USA - Iconic a multi-media production at the Alabama Theatre in Myrtle Beach, SC, (the venue is named after the band) takes audiences on a ‘journey through the music that has shaped our sense of time and place, from country hits and Broadway show tunes, to power rock anthems and pop ballads’.

Europe - South Germany-based band H.A.S.A. (Heiner’s All Star Attraktion) recently updated their entire live sound inventory with an Allen & Heath SQ-6 digital mixer, two AB168 AudioRacks and five ME-1 personal mixers.
Assisting with the incorporation of the ME-1 system into the band’s set-up was engineer Klaus Bröckel (whose CV features Miles Davis, Till Brönner, Klaus Doldinger and festivals including JazzOpen Stuttgart, Jazzfest Rottweil and Bayern 3 Dorffest Open Air amongst many others). As a long-term ME-1 devotee, Bröckel has introduced many artists to the personal monitoring solution and was well-placed to ensure the band enjoyed a smooth transition to the new system.
