USA - Like the music it celebrates, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, which just marked its 39th year, has also drawn on its ability to embrace new ideas to remain vibrant and relevant.

The 2024 ceremony provided a good example of this commitment, as a dynamic lighting design by Allen Branton that featured over 250 Chauvet Professional fixtures (supplied by 4Wall Entertainment), worked seamlessly with a Bruce Rodgers production design, and an immersive video design by Bianca Moncada of Darmah, to engage the live and TV audience on a deep level, all while supporting the activities on stage.

UK - British record producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Fred Again has gained palpable notoriety through emotive remixing, aided by live performances that create real excitement. His team trusts Britannia Row Productions to be part of that live evolution, one that has got the industry, and the electronic world, talking.

USA - New Hampshire-based LD Brian Courchine, designer at the well-known Northland Music and Arts Festival, has made a career out of studying the inexorable connection between music and colour.

Courchine recently designed the lightshow for a sold-out concert at Infinity Hall in Hartford by Pink Talking Fish. Among the more successful tribute bands, Pink Talking fish combines the music of Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish, each evoking a different aura – and each lending itself to a different palette. Adding a little extra spice to this particular evening was the healthy serving of Beatles songs thrown into the set.

UK - Performances of Pergolesi’s 1735 three-act opera L’Olimpiade were staged in the grounds of The Vache, a Grade II*-listed estate in Chalfont St. Giles, recently.

A cast of seven members of operatic company Vache Baroque (plus narrator) delivered Pergolesi’s arias under the sensitive direction of Laura Attridge, while the 17-piece orchestra, led by Jonathan Darbourne, helped deliver a playful interpretation of this Olympics-style story, from authentic early music instruments.

However, the real breakthrough was the immersive soundscape created for audiences of up to 200 per performance, seated al fresco under a stretch canopy, which simulated a purpose-built concert hall. Europe - After production rehearsals in Copenhagen’s Royal Arena, Kygo kicked off his current European tour with four dates in Denmark, Sweden and Norway before heading into central and southern Europe.

“We’ve just finished a run through his home market in Scandinavia and it pretty much sold out,” said production manager Joel Stanley. “Kygo has developed musically as a performer, though remained rooted in his own personality; he’s much the same person he was ten years ago. USA - We Belong Here has been uniting EDM lovers on Miami's Virginia Key Beach for the past three years, and has now hosted its first-ever festival experience in New York City amid Central Park’s lush greenery and panoramic skyline views.

Held October 4-6 at historic Wollman Rink, design collective Datum Creative built a fully immersive 360° experience for festival-goers, including a stunning visual tribute to the city’s skyline using Elation Pulse Bar strobe and effect lights.

UK - The Last Dinner Party, the all-female quintet winners of the Brits Rising Star honour at this year’s Brit Awards, wraps their theatrical sound around a flamboyant stage persona. For the band’s current tour, Ed Warren has delivered a show that engages the audience with distinctive flourishes.

The backdrop was adorned with a crescent moon and velvety clouds. It was hand painted by artist Beth Quinton, then scanned and digitally printed onto cloth with a definition so fine that it looks like a highly textured, hand-painted work.

USA - Rolling Hills Covenant Church (RHCC) in California was founded in 1957 and dedicated its first church building in 1959. Following the sustained growth of its congregation during the 1960s and ‘70s, the Church constructed a larger worship centre which is now the main focus of its Rolling Hills Estates campus.

During the 1980s, RHCC expanded its emphasis on the arts as part of Christian worship, with a strong focus on the role of musical excellence in services. Setting high standards of music performance demands audio quality to match, and during a recent remodelling of its main gathering space, which saw new seating and stage layouts, the Church undertook an overhaul of its technical systems, including provision for a new sound system.

USA - The Dub Stage in Burbank, CA recently relocated and took the opportunity to fully outfit the facility with a Meyer Sound loudspeaker system. Marti D. Humphrey, CEO and chief re-recording mixer, invited various mixers and producers to The Dub Stage to audition the system. Humphrey said: “Everybody was absolutely blown away by the quality and the dynamics of the system.”

The system comprises 25 Meyer Sound cinema loudspeaker products, driven by two Galileo processors. The loudspeakers consist of three Acheron Designer loudspeakers for left, centre, and right. Brazil - Laroc Guarujá, the newest addition to the Laroc Club brand, has quickly earned its place among the leading venues for electronic music. The club’s Valinhos unit was ranked the 10th best club globally in 2024 by DJ Mag.

Belgium - Housed in a magnificent former bank building, the renowned Belga Queen restaurant in central Brussels is now under new management, and recently underwent a complete renovation.

An important part of the Belga Queen’s renovation was the provision of a new audio system. The new management was keen to match its investment in the refurbishment with an audio solution befitting of the venue’s high-end values, and engaged experienced AV specialists FOL Sound, Light and Vision to design and supply a system.

USA - The landmark Genesee Theatre in Waukegan, Illinois has installed a Meyer Sound Panther system, marking a major upgrade to its nearly century-old tradition of live entertainment.

Originally opened in 1927 as a grand movie palace, the 2,400-seat venue, owned by the city of Waukegan and managed by the nonprofit Friends of the Historic Genesee Theatre, shifted focus in recent years to present concert-heavy programming that called for a more robust sound system.

The theatre’s Meyer Sound M2D system, installed in 2004, was designed for musicals, speaking events, and films. But as the venue hosted more concerts, it bolstered the installed system with rental equipment.

Germany - On 9 November, the city of Berlin – representing the entire country – celebrated the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Instead of a central celebration at the Brandenburg Gate, this time it decided on a decentralised concept with five stages. In addition, 5,000 posters, designed by Berliners, lined up in a row to trace the course of the former wall.

The artistic collective phase7 performing.arts, led by Sven Sören Beyer, was responsible for the creative concept of the celebrations on behalf of Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH. Flo Erdmann was entrusted with the lighting design of the large main stage at the Brandenburg Gate (design by Sven Sören Beyer and Janik Albrecht), as well as the four side stages at the Futurium, Checkpoint Charlie, Paul-Löbe-Haus and Potsdamer Platz.

Germany - The 189th edition of the Oktoberfest took place recently on the Theresienwiese in Munich. Across the event’s 16-day duration, more than six million guests of all ages visited the site, spreading out across streets, tents and beer gardens to take advantage of a huge variety of entertainment on offer, and slaking their thirst with more than seven million litres of beer. One key venue at the site is the Paulaner Festzelt tent, which has been an integral part of the event since 1895.

Germering-based event production specialists Dora Showtechnik handled the audio for the festival’s Paulaner Festzelt venue, where two bands alternate throughout the day, and this year deployed the XTA MX36 console switcher to simplify their workflow.

Malta - The flourishing Maltese bar hotspot of St. Julian’s, overlooking St. George’s Bay, is where you will find both Hugo’s Lounge and Hugo’s Terrace & Rooftop. Established by the late leisure entrepreneur Hugo Chetcuti, the operation is today run by his son Luke, who is CEO of the Hugo’s Group.

Europe - UB40 recently completed their eight-city UK leg of the Red Red Wine tour, which ended 23 November at Belfast’s SSE Arena. Lighting designer Martin Dudley, owner of Martin’s Lights, is bringing the band closer to the audience through some adroit fixture placement, and the inspired use of Chauvet Professional.

“The Strike 4s are on the front truss as good old-fashioned crowd blinders, and the Rogue R2X washes are in three sets of four fixtures on the floor, one set behind each band riser,” detailed Dudley. “As everyone knows, there’s a lot of crowd participation in a UB40 show, so the blinders help the audience become part of things, in addition to helping the band see who they are singing to.

USA - Located within walking distance of the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall Expansion, a new resort is gaining popularity. The resort has over 3,600 rooms and suites, a 170,000 sq.ft casino, 550,000sq.ft of meeting space, 36 bars and restaurants, spa, 3,800-seat theatre, a nightclub, and 90,000sq.ft of retail space.

Early in the construction process, resort staff contacted Richard Reisig, owner of Technology West Group, to design and install the AV throughout the massive property.

“It was a struggle during the pandemic to get products from anyone,” said Reisig. “We were far down the installation path when we discovered the originally specified amps couldn’t be delivered on time. Everything was on the network already, so we needed network-based amplifiers. There was no going back, so we pivoted to LEA. It was our first time working with
