Germany - On the first evening of Wacken Open Air, German medieval rockers In Extremo headlined on the Louder Stage. The band’s lighting designer, Martin Heining, expanded his design especially for the Wacken show, by including 12 of the new high-performance Creos washlights from GLP, adding onto the already extensive festival design of LD Jerry Appelt. The Creos stood out for their “impressive output and outstanding colour depth”.

Equipped with the latest RGBL LED technology (18 x 40W, arranged in three lines), the Creos offers an impressive variety and intensity of colours. Heining used the weatherproof (IP65) devices to deliver a strong backlight with bold colours, creating impressive depth between the set and the video wall.

“The Creos exceeded my expectations,” says Heining. “Their high output and impressive colour quality made a sig

USA - North Carolina State University in Raleigh recently renovated the sound system at its Carter-Finley Stadium. Home to the university’s Division I football team and one of the top 80 largest stadiums in the United States, the nearly 57,000-seat stadium has been completely revamped to better reflect the energy and excitement of games, matches, graduations, and other large-scale events.

The Carter-Finley Stadium required a modern audio system that could handle the scope of needs, as the previous system was outdated, unreliable, and unable to provide the sound clarity and control necessary. As the university embarked on a major scoreboard renovation, it was clear that the sound system required an equally significant overhaul.

Allen & Heath played an important role in both the technology and services of the audio system replacement project,

In 2022, the Theatre purchased 11 Robe T1 Profiles which have become an essential lighting element for all their predictions, explained head of technical, Jòzef Leoniuk, and these fixtures have helped enrich the experience of lighting shows at the busy venue.

A major reason T1 Profiles were selected – after a competitive shoot-out with other products – was for their silent running plus features like the CRI, the range of CT whites and the refined dimming curve, as w

USA - Gamers visiting Arizona’s 98,000sq.ft Talking Stick Resort casino are enjoying an array of high-resolution displays which wrap around each zone to enhance the experience, with twelve Green Hippo Hippotizer Media Servers installed for video duty.

The luxury complex, which is located on the Salt-River Pima Maricopa Indian Reservation near Scottsdale, is undergoing a major renovation and expansion, with its Arena Poker Room the host for the annual Arizona State and Arizona State Ladies Poker Championships.

The project’s aim was to upgrade the resort’s inefficient and low-quality CMS system, which was not capable of handling the high-resolution graphics files required for the newly installed DVLED walls in multiple locations. UK - Edinburgh College has opened a new Dolby Atmos audio production studio and has installed the Audient Oria immersive audio interface and monitor controller as a key part of the new 7.1.4 setup.

Head of school media, music & sound production Jonathan Bennett says, “As the industry between media, music and sound production moves more and more towards spatial and interactive audio, it’s brilliant that we’ve been able to realise such an ambitious space such as this one to give our students the skills they need to succeed.”

Lead technician, Steve Galbraith and his colleague Gordon Young were instrumental in building the studio. Gordon explains how they went about choosing an interface for the room: “We looked at a whole range of solutions, but most of them appeared to have some kind of half-measure. The Audient Oria was the first box

USA - Full Sail University recently commissioned a new Dolby Atmos-enabled facility for class sessions, workshops, listening experiences and guest lectures at its Winter Park, FL campus. Playout of the ‘objects based’ spatial concept is via 26 carefully selected, and strategically located loudspeakers from the Martin Audio catalogue.

One of the largest, and most advanced Dolby Atmos rooms on a university campus, according to education director of audio arts, Brandon Egerton, this had been a topic of discussion for a number of years. “But we needed to make sure we were wrapping our arms around the right technology. We felt it was important to have a solid understanding of both the emerging technology and also how the industry intended on adopting it and so we intentionally took our time.”

USA - With its bandshell set against the majestic backdrop of its namesake hills, the more-than-a-century-old Hollywood Bowl casts a captivating spell. Rolling Stone named the legendary amphitheatre, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, one of the USA’s 10 best live music venues.

Replicating this kind of splendour at a modern indoor arena is a tall order, but Bobby Grey of Notan Creative LLC was up to the challenge recently when he was called upon to light Audacy’s superstar- studded We Can Survive concert at New Jersey’s 18,000-capacity Prudential Centre.

Held annually in support of mental health advocacy, the event routinely features many of music’s biggest names. This year’s concert was no exception, as artists like Justin Timberlake, New Kids on the Block, Tate McRae, Benson Boone, Khalid, and Isabel LaRosa took the s

USA - Biamp has announced that its integration partner Design Sound NW (DSNW) has completed its multi-year effort to upgrade the sound systems of the Chiles Centre multi-purpose indoor arena and the Etzel Field baseball stadium located on the University of Portland campus in Portland, Oregon.

USA - The cruise ship industry has changed dramatically throughout its history, from being simple ocean liners to all-in-one floating resorts with fine dining, shopping malls and vast entertainment options. In the early days of cruise ships, entertainment was often quite limited and usually consisted of basic activities and evening shows.

As passenger expectations and technological advancements have grown over recent decades, so has the sophistication of the entertainment offered. Designers Alex Taylor and Travis McHale from Q-L Lighting used the power of BlackTrax from CAST Group of Companies to elevate the theatrical productions on Regent and Oceania ships. This innovative technology has transformed the way lighting design is used on these ships, creating immersive and dynamic experiences.

The partnership started in 2019, when McHale led the design

USA - Max Wolf Friedlich’s play, Job, recently made its Broadway debut at the Helen Hayes Theatre after a critically acclaimed off-Broadway run.

In the play, Jane, a former high tech company employee, who lost her job after exhibiting bizarre behaviour, and Lloyd, her therapist, are figuratively trapped in his office for the entire show. Both carry dark, troubling pasts with them. Confined to a narrow space that seems to grow tighter as the play unfolds, these two conflicted hearts collide, setting off a chain reaction of powerful emotions.

Reflecting the human drama that defines Job is an emotionally unsettling Mextly Couzin lighting design that encompasses the play’s complex world.

“There are two realities this play works in – the therapist’s room and the inside of Jane’s mind, populated with panic attacks and

UK - Bristol Cathedral was originally built as an Augustinian Abbey and dates back to 1140. Further additions to the building took place through the centuries until it became a cathedral in 1542, with its magnificent nave completed in 1877.

Today the cathedral continues a centuries-long tradition of being a welcoming space for the people of Bristol and visitors to the city, open daily with a rich programme of services and events, historic architecture and a peaceful garden.

To ensure the full enjoyment of this rapidly expanding range of activities by congregations and audiences, clergy and performers alike, the cathedral recently issued a tender for the design and installation of a modern, versatile new sound system which could perform at the highest level while also remaining relatively discreet in such a beautiful and historic building.
