USA - Allied Esports announced the grand opening date and a major partnership for Esports Arena Las Vegas, and the first stop for its new mobile arena, Esports Arena Drive.
Esports Arena Las Vegas, The Strip’s first dedicated esports arena, will open at Luxor Hotel and Casino on 22 March with a series of events, including an invitation-only, multi-day, live-streamed tournament.

UK - Tasked with creating a fresh regime of visual anarchy for Prodigy’s most recent tour, lighting and set designer Tim Fawkes chose to work with rental specialist HSL as suppliers of lighting and a crew who were chiefed by Matt Brown.
Tim took a brief from the band and long-term manager John Fairs. This led to the development of four custom semi scenic old-style searchlight assemblies upstage, with big hexagonal outer shells and packed with more modern lightning technology. These, together with three scenic CCTV camera towers were the main set pieces,
”The underlying idea was to create a scene of dystopia on stage,” explained Tim. The set was built by Stage One. Tim devised the shape and size of the searchlight housings which he modelled and tweaked in WYSIWYG before finalising. They were a compromise between being tourable, relatively light at under 300kg each

UK - Helping to bring a touch of nostalgia to TV screens across the UK, illumination specialists LED Creative supported scenic designer Chris Webster and lighting director Dave Davey on Talkback Thames’ recently revamped The Price is Right.
Recorded in front of a live studio audience, the programme was hosted by Alan Carr who invited members of the audience to “Come on Down” against the backdrop of Chris Webster’s vivacious set.
As a part of the build, LED Creative supplied the team with over 2km of their Alpha 60 RGB system which the designer used to create the myriad of light boxes, which were bursting with colour across the back of the stage. Additionally, each lightbox was fitted with a saturation diffuser, sourced specifically for the project to deliver consistently vivid colours in all key lighting conditions.

UK - Imelda May recently completed a short run of concert dates with a commanding performance at the Royal Albert Hall, where Bob Geldof and Ronnie Wood were among her special guests.
With the London concert hall the only venue on the itinerary requiring an imported sound system, Capital Sound, the artiste’s equipment vendor for the past seven years, fielded their flagship Martin Audio MLA PA in a new sleek format, tailor made for the RAH.
With a new front of house engineer in Waynne Smart, and a requirement to provide 270° coverage (only the choir stalks at the rear were left empty), they deployed a more compact and efficient system that had first been successfully trialled at the RAH back in late Spring, with shows by Roger Hodgson and the Beach Boys.

USA - Bandit Lites supported Canadian rock band Death From Above on their autumn tour in support of their third studio album Outrage! Is Now.
Death From Above were looking to take the lighting in a new direction and contacted Dara Guiney. Following a discussion with tour manager/production manager Markus Gilgan, Guiney crafted a floor package that would provide the ‘something different’ while staying on budget: a simple rectangle of tilting, zoomable LED bars around the band.
“I had got the idea when I saw a band called Explosions in the Sky play,” said Guiney. “They had a row upstage and downstage of LED bars, designed by Tobias Rylander and operated by Corey Mattonen. Corey explained a lot to me about the LED bars and how positive he was about them, selling me on the LED bar idea. I proposed this idea to the band, drafted it and did a couple of visua

The Netherlands - As part of their recent move to expand Podium Victorie’s audience capacity, the owners of the Dutch club recently decided to move to an inner-city location.
The venue’s owners wanted to install a state-of-the-art lighting rig to provide visiting bands with the most modern powerful high-energy support. Dutch distributor Rolight upgraded the club’s stage lighting using Chauvet Professional Maverick, Rogue and COLORdash fixtures.
In total, 20 Maverick MK2 Spot LEDs, 61 Rogue R2 Washes, six Rogue RH1 Hybrids and 36 COLORdash Par-Hex 12 RGBAWUV fixtures were specified for the stage. USA - Sky-Skan recently installed a complete audio solution by Harman Professional at the newly-opened Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science.
Sky-Skan created a design that features an 8K 3D projection system with specialised Christie Digital projectors that deliver 30,000lm of brightness, making it one of the brightest projection systems on the planet.
To complement the video system, Sky-Skan needed to design a high-fidelity audio solution capable of delivering crisp, powerful and natural-sounding audio. After careful consideration, Sky-Skan designed and installed an integrated Harman solution made up of JBL Professional CSX F35 loudspeakers, Crown power amplifiers, BSS Soundweb London signal processors and AKG microphones. The design also features Martin wash lights and Martin system controllers that control both the audio and lighting systems.

Spain - Clair Brothers’ Spanish distributor VTècnics has upgraded its touring PA to the new C12 system.
Since the upgrade, VTècnics used the C12 for concerts of popular Catalonian bands La Pegatina, Sopa de Cabra, Oques Grasses, and Doctor Prats, as well as at mass political events, a fashion show in Barcelona, and the MotoGP motorcycle event.

Europe - Sarah Brightman relied on Allen & Heath dLive systems for both FOH and monitor duties on her Royal Christmas Gala tour.
The two-month European tour saw Brightman perform her own hits, alongside popular Christmas carols. The show included a full band and orchestra, five solo singers and the eight-member Gregorian choir. Allen & Heath's dLive S7000 surfaces performed both FOH and monitor duties, combined with two DM64 MixRacks, plus DX32 and DX168 I/O expanders.

Europe - Lighting and video rental specialist Colour Sound Experiment has invested in new Robe MegaPointe moving lights, Blackmagic video control technology and new pre-rigged trusses, all of which is out on the current 2CELLOS tour playing arenas in key capital cities around Europe .
West London-based Colour Sound is providing lighting, video, rigging and crew, working closely with lighting designer Crt Birsa and production manager Chris Griffiths.

USA - A sense of expectation runs like an open road through the flowing music of Counting Crows. Mike Zielinski, the band’s long-time lighting designer, captured this wayfarer quality on their recent A Brief History Of Everything tour, co-headlined with Matchbox 20, by creating a suspension bridge-style backdrop that spanned the width of the stage. Anchoring the evocative structure were 25 Chauvet Professional STRIKE 1 fixtures supplied by Upstaging, Inc.
“It’s going on 18 years now that I’ve been designing for Counting Crows, and this was an entirely new concept, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do for some time,” said Zielinski. “The bridge represents the band’s Bay-area roots as well as the spirit of its music. On a more practical level, the bridge design also gave me something to punch through the daylight at outdoor venues.”

UK - Thousands of festival-goers experienced the interactive AV environment of the Samsung Hypercube as part of the Samsung Galaxy S8 UK launch this summer. The Samsung Hypercube toured its 360 Infinity Selfie' Experience to Boardmasters, Bestival and Reading festivals, with Avolites' Ai media control at the heart of its complex technical infrastructure.
Containing a reflective panelled interior separated by strips of colour changing LED and a 27m x 1m continuous wrap-around LED video screen, the Hypercube immersed audiences into a 360° infinite display of light and colour. Samsung's new Galaxy S8 smartphone acted as a control interface allowing visitors to influence the cube's audio and infinite visual effects created through its multiple reflective surfaces.

The Netherlands - The TivoliVredenburg in central Utrecht features seven different music performance spaces and is in the process of having its house and public area lighting upgraded with Anolis Ambiane RGBW LED luminaires.

UK - Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, one of the UK’s leading drama schools, utilised effects lighting fixtures from Chroma-Q and ProLights for its recent annual Christmas Concert - supplied by A.C. Entertainment Technologies (AC-ET).
This evening of songs, speeches and a chance to see all of Mountview’s undergraduate and foundation students perform under one roof, took place in St. George’s Catholic Cathedral, Southwark, Central London.
Mountview senior lighting tutor, Alex Cann, created the Christmas Concert's lighting design in partnership with a student of the Academy's 3rd year BA (Hons) Theatre Production Arts course.

USA - Sid Gattis, owner of Gattis Pro Audio, heard Danley Sound Lab's new SM-80F point-source loudspeaker with built-in subwoofer support at InfoComm and specified it for the First Baptist Church in Lincolton, NC.

USA - The iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour presented by Capital One visited 12 cities from 28 November to 7 December. Select dates included Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, the Chainsmokers, and many more – with a spectacular lighting rig including many Solaris Flares.
“Love those Flares,” says the shows’ LD Tom Kenny. “A few years ago, TMB gave me some Flare demos to try out. Since then, after using Flares very successfully on many TV shows, including Kids’ Choice Awards, as well as the VMAs and Europe’s EMA award shows, I specified them for The Who Hits 50! tour.
