Due to its conical construction, the Porsche Customer Centre provided Gert Pasemann from CWC Pasemann, who was responsible for the technical execution of this event, with a number of sound reinforcement problems, since the building tapers off.
Given these acoustic challenges, he contacted Shure Distribution, QSC's German distributor, for technical and product support. Upon consultation, Santiago Alcalá, system specialist for QSC in Europe, Middle East and Africa, flew to Leipzig to provide on-site support.
Prior to the concert, Alcalá and CWC Pasemann engineers used QSC's EASE Focus software to assess different speaker configurations. Ultimately, they decided to place one line array on each side of the 160 sq.m wide stage, each consisting of five WL2101-w elements. In addition, they positioned a total of four WL218 subwoofers at equal distances in front of, and next to the stage.
"Because of the enormous width of the stage in proportion to the low depth of the audience area the WideLine's 140° dispersion pattern delivered the perfect solution," said Marcus Baeumler, QSC product manager at Shure Distribution.
QSC PL230s, PL6.0 IIs and the new PowerLight PL380s provided amplification, while the system controller was a QSC Basis 914lz, monitored by QSControl.net 3.0 software via wireless LAN.
