UK - At the start of June, Stage Crew - the Irish event crew company - were shortlisted for their first two awards. The Irish Event Industry Awards shortlisted Stage Crew in their 'Best Event Infrastructure Provider' category and the Northern Irish Workplace and Employment Awards named them as finalists for the 'Best Company to do Business With' award.

The Irish Event Awards are now in their fourth year, celebrating excellence and showcasing the highest standards in Ireland's event industry. The Workplace & Employment Awards are in their 6th Year and are endorsed by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation and the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development.

UK - Flightcase manufacturer 5 Star Cases has expanded its HQ and manufacturing facility in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire again - this time adding a further 4700sq.ft of production units.

This is the second development this year on the Broadend Road site which is at the heart of 5 Star's busy operation. It follows on from the construction of a new and much larger custom sanding booth area in January, and is actually the third expansion in 12 months for 5 Star, as another 2500sq.ft of storage space was also added in 2011.

The latest newly refurbished units will initially be used for extra storage of finished goods - However, in the coming months 5 Star is launching several new case lines and products, so the units have been designed from the outset for the easy accommodation of a new set of state-of-the-art production facilities, ready to be activated when time comes.

UK - SES have completed the third and final stage of an order from Suffolk based Tempower Ltd, to significantly increase their stock of the SES Powerpro range of Distro units.

Barney Hammond of Tempower placed the order with SES for over 50 large units on a schedule to cover orders for this season which he had taken, with the final delivery of 15 units taking place at the end of June, which meant that he could satisfy his customers requirements.

This order was run alongside several other high profile projects that SES were committed too, all of which all have been delivered on time to the satisfaction of many clients, says the company.

Music in Schools - Violinist Nicola Benedetti has attacked the spending squeeze on music tuition in schools. She said young people needed a cultural identity to replace their obsession with celebrities and in becoming a celebrity. Benedetti began violin lessons at the age of five and went on to attend the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey. The 25-year-old told the Radio Times, "I'm fiercely furious about the provision of music in schools."

Benedetti secured a £2m, six-album record contract after winning BBC Young Musician of the Year at 16 and has risen to international fame. She has also been involved in supporting the Big Noise orchestra in Raploch, Stirling - inspired by the Venezuelan El Sistema scheme to help poorer children. UK - Sapsis Rigging played a pivotal role in the aerialist event held in London on 5 July, 2012. The event, titled One Extraordinary Day, was commissioned by the Mayor of London and involved performances by Elizabeth Streb and her Action Heroes troupe at the Millennium Bridge, City Hall, Trafalgar and Paternoster Squares, the National Theatre and the London Eye.

UK - Flightcase manufacturer 5 Star Cases has supplied custom super-tough road cases to a Swedish collector Henrik Stuifbergen, for a number of artefacts from the White Star Line ocean liner RMS Olympic, sister ship and carbon copy of the ill fated RMS Titanic.

These went on display at The Exhibition Titanic that started in Spain 10 years ago and is currently showing in Barcelona until September, from where it will tour to other European destinations.

The exhibition has also visited Sweden, Germany and Denmark, and there are plans for an Asian Titanic exhibition in 2014, starting in Hong Kong.

With 2012 being the centenary of the Titanic's sinking, the exhibition has gathered momentum and interest.

London 2012 has a 'zero to landfill' policy for the event and therefore all products are required to be fully recyclable or have a quantifiable after life. Spain - Mojo Barriers has expanded its European capabilities, providing its crowd barriers and consultation services to support touring and local promoters across Spain.

Marking its presence with a series of the region's most well known festivals Mojo is working with promoter Last Tour International, supplying Sonisphere (25 - 26 May), BBK Bilbao Live (12 - 14 July) and En Vivo (27 - 29 September) where it will be installing its Barrier Load Monitoring System (BLMS), which includes sensors to monitor crowd pressure.
