UK - A spectacular work of art was installed by event crew specialists, Showforce in the heart of Stratford's cultural quarter as part of the Stratford Rising Festival celebrations.

Commissioned by Stratford Rising, the artwork was designed by local artist, David Allies Curtis to depict the Ring-A-Roses children's game using an existing, metallic ring-shaped structure, ribbons and red nylon strapping. Showforce was appointed to help create the one-off installation, with crew chief, Lawrence Jones working closely with the artist to ensure the final design could be achieved. In just two days, the Ring-A-Roses was erected in the town's Theatre Square including individually affixing each section of strapping via a scissor lift.

UK - The National Rigging Advisory Group (NRAG) is pleased to announce its newly expanded remit to become a representative body for the entertainment rigging industry in the UK. Whilst created to oversee the development of the National Rigging Certificate, the success of that program allows the NRAG to now focus on additional initiatives to increase safety and competency in the industry. Many countries are keen to harmonise what they do and are concerned with international parity and, as the worldwide voice of entertainment technology, PLASA has taken the first steps towards creating a template for an international code of practice for entertainment rigging. The session will include an overview of the initiative and attendees will be invited to give feedback on the proposed content outline.

UK - World-renowned English rapper and singer-songwriter, Example, has spent the summer playing a series of festival dates beneath a uniquely designed lighting rig constructed from James Thomas Engineering's new JT Truss.

The newly-launched JT Truss was chosen by lighting designer Graham 'Grum' Leesmith who needed to re-create a smaller, 'festival-friendly' version of the one he used on Example's international arena tour.

The truss is configured as two 4.5m diameter octagonal lighting rigs with each octagon composed of eight 1.5m sections of JT40 truss. These are joined by custom-made 45° corners and suspended above the stage where they form the main part of the full flown tour rig.
