UK - The concert production industry has lost one of its most influential figures this week, with the death of the legendary concert stage designer, Mark Fisher.

Having been responsible for the design of most of the landmark touring stadium shows of the past three decades, Fisher occupied a unique position in the industry. He trained as an architect at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, graduating in 1971, and later, having already made his name in the world of concert design with his work on Pink Floyd's The Wall (1980), he teamed up with Jonathan Park to create the Fisher Park Partnership in 1984. The Mark Fisher Studio, Stufish, was founded in 1994.

Fisher's designs throughout this period encompass many of the largest, most innovative, most complex and most memorable touring concert productions of recent times. In addition to Pink Floyd,

UK - Backstage Academy has employed a new student ambassador to educate students across the UK and Europe about the career opportunities in live events production.

Dan Kelly is a former student from Backstage Academy's first Foundation Degree in Live Events Production. He joined the industry training company, based in Wakefield, at the end of the course and has been touring schools and colleges to provide students with an insight into working backstage.

Said Kelly: "Working with schools and colleges is very important for the sustainability of the UK's live events industry. Most students I speak to are unaware of the career opportunities available to them and even less aware of how they can get into the industry and progress once they are in it.

"Through my experience of the Foundation Degree, being tutored by industry professionals, and working both in the LS-Live

UK - Harting's new Han-Fast Lock PCB termination system provides simple solder-free push-fit single-wire connection to printed-circuit boards, greatly enhancing the ease and flexibility of power distribution for entertainment equipment such as lighting dimmers, power supplies and winch/hoist motor controllers.

User benefits include the fact that power-line terminations can be taken from any point on the printed-circuit board without the need for tracks to be extended to one specific connection area. As a result, costs are reduced because of the simplified design and savings in real estate. This approach also eliminates the possibility of concentrated "hot spots" and therefore allows higher currents to be handled.

The easy "push/click" Han-Fast Lock PCB termination fits securely in the standard plated-through hole with pad and can handle up to 60 A for discr

UK - The new Amanda Restell Academy of Dance Harlequin Activity sprung dance floor has helped to transform an antique shop in Leigh-on Sea, Essex, into cutting edge dance studios as part of the relocation of the Amanda Restell Academy of Dance - one of Essex's premier dancing schools.

Founded in 1994 with just two classes and six pupils, the Amanda Restell Academy of Dance has grown over the last 20 years and now schools more than 600 children from the age of two. UK - LS-Live and Backstage Academy have joined the community benefit co-operative set up to restore the Grade II listed Unity Hall in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

The venue, which was a much used event space following its establishment as the Wakefield Co-operative headquarters in 1867, has been closed for the last decade.

Unity House Wakefield Limited formed in 2011 with the intention of raising funds to restore the building and turn it into a major music venue, conference centre and location for creative businesses.

The development team, led by director Chris Hill, raised £4m of funding to restore the structural elements of the venue, but its bid to the Arts Council for £300,000 to finish the interior of the building was declined.

Australia - Mildura's new $8.7m Arts Centre boasts a theatre with a 40 percent increase in fixed seating (450 seats), with capacity for another 100 portable seats, and a 60 percent larger stage.

The new, much larger arts centre will attract more acts to the district as the previous arts centre, which had served the district for more than 40 years, had been too small or inadequate for some acts given the size and quantity of material they required on stage.

Other features of the new state-of-the-art facility include a 15m tower above the stage, to improve management of curtains, lights, scenery and backdrops during performances.

Jands designed, manufactured and installed the all-important safety curtain for the Mildura Arts Centre Theatre including related mechanical components with the specified mechanical, structural and control features.

The robots have a 1.5m reach and six axes of movement, with the ability to extend vertically, horizontally and rotate.

Providing the artists with a set that could be used in club spaces and toured internationally for festival shows, the Roboscreens can be swapped out and fitted with signature scenic Deadmau5 maus-heads created by the Henson Company during their set.

Automation for the robots was provided by Tait from movements translated by Robotic Arts, based on designer briefs. Pre-programmed movements were able to take place seamlessly during live

UK - Leona Lewis took to the road this spring with her Glassheart tour, taking in venues around Europe, including a number of sold out dates at London's Royal Albert Hall. London-based SW19 took on the coordination of technical requirements just weeks before the start of the tour.

Although a new name to the concert touring market, SW19 Production's team is packed with familiar faces and its involvement in the Glassheart tour was the result of close associations with key members of Leona's team.

"I'd worked with creative director Emma Bull and musical director Steve Anderson on Kylie Minogue tours, and with Leona's Front of House engineer Dave Wooster on many occasions," explains SW19 production manager Kevin Hopgood. "Leona had also changed management companies immediately before the tour and they were open to a change and a fresh eye on things.&qu

UK - A bespoke automation system has been designed by Kinesys to open and close two large set doors integrated into the rear video wall backdrop on Robbie Williams' current Take The Crown stadium tour.

The doors - positioned stage left and stage right - each measure 7.73m high by 6m wide and open and close to allow set trucks with giant heads of the singer to enter and exit the stage.

Kinesys was contacted by the tour's set technical manager Nick Evans and head rigger Jerry Hough and asked to come up with a neat and safe automation solution for quickly opening and closing the doors - that had been mechanically engineered by Tait.

The particular challenge with operating these doors is they are required to tilt back 6 degrees before raising 7m to fully open.

The mechanics of the system were designed and engineered by Tait's Pieter Denijs and Jerry Hough and features a

USA - City Theatrical is launching a new version of the DMX SHoW Baby wireless DMX system called SHoW DMX SHoW Baby 5.

SHoW Baby 5 now has five SHoW IDs, allowing systems to be scaled up to multi universe broadcasts by using more than one transmitter, or as a way of avoiding interference from other SHoW Babys in the area.

SHoW Baby 5 is still plug and play. Each unit is a transceiver and by plugging a DMX cable IN, it automatically selects itself to be a Transmitter. If nothing is plugged into the DMX IN port, it selects itself to be a receiver.

SHoW Baby 5 is the same price as the original SHoW Baby and is compatible with all existing SHoW Babys in the world.

There are still seven indicator lights on the front of the SHoW Baby, four for signal strength, one to designate whether it is a transmitter, one to designate whether it is a receiver, and a data present light. In th
