The annual event was staged in the main auditorium of the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden. S+H were contacted by Lee Batty, head of production for event organisers, the Society of London Theatre.
He was looking for a striking backdrop and a full leg and border dressing solution for the stage, and had previously used S+H's products, most recently their LED Animation Cloth, on a show for Rolf Harris that he production managed.
Batty also assisted in the visual design and look of the Oliviers, and says, "We wanted something different from last year that would bring a dynamic and special feel. I knew the quality and reliability of the S+H cloths already, so it was a natural choice for the event."
Over 1500 guests joined the glitter and clamour to see 14 Awards presented covering multiple categories, and enjoyed a cast of 450 perform a lively programme of entertainment all against the Chameleon starcloth, and broadcast live on the BBC's Red Button.
The Olivier Awards lighting was designed by Ben Cracknell, and all channels of the fully DMX-able Chameleon starcloth were fed into the grandMA lighting control desk, operated by Alex Passmore for the show. Lighting equipment was supplied by White Light.
The flexibility offered by the Chameleon brought plenty of appropriate glamour to the show and provided a stunning backdrop to the action.
S+H Technical Support's John Braidwood comments, "It was a great honour to see the Chameleon performing at an event as prestigious as the Olivier Awards, and a real testament to the versatility of the product."
