The Namibian Oncology Centre

Namibia - The Namibian Oncology Centre offers comprehensive and progressive cancer treatment and care in comfortable, modern surroundings. With facilities in Windhoek, Swakopmund, the opening of a new chemotherapy facility in the capital called for the integration of a new AV system to provide digital signage and entertainment for patients receiving treatment.

Stage Audio Works (SAW) Namibia successfully secured the project following an invitation to submit a tender.  "We are honoured to have been chosen for this installation at the Namibian Oncology Centre,” reflects Emcé Smit, technical manager at Stage Audio Works Namibia.

“Our goal was to provide a modern, reliable and high-quality AV solution that offers comfort and entertainment to patients undergoing chemotherapy. The installation needed to meet the client’s high standards of performance and durability, ensuring a long life of satisfactory, trouble-free operation with minimal maintenance."

The scope of the project encompassed an audio system for background music in the reception waiting area, the installation of Smart TVs in the shared treatment area, and individual Smart TVs for each patient in the private treatment rooms.

The technology installed includes an Audac All-in-One audio solution with ceiling loudspeakers and an easy-to-use audio streaming module. For visuals, several UHD screens were installed, with entertainment provided via individual Apple TV units to allow for on-demand streaming services.

As the site was under construction during the integration, coordinating installation services within the stipulated time frame posed challenges. However, through effective collaboration with the engineers at Emcon Consulting Engineers and the construction team from Decora cc, SAW Namibia delivered the project successfully and on time.

"The high-quality audio and visual systems we installed are not just end-user friendly but also significantly enhance the environment for patients receiving treatment," added Smit. "This project is important to us because it directly impacts the wellbeing of patients, providing them with much-needed comfort and distraction during their treatment."
