Normally the partnership between the luminaire and lamp manufacturer's R&D teams is glossed over and presenters move on to more product specific areas, and this leaves the story of the collaboration untold.
"Philips and Selecon have the same dealer in Taiwan, and when Mr. Anthony Wu, managing director of Ming Li approached us with his idea of a joint seminar, we were delighted to be involved" says Sargent. "After discussing the concept further with Paul Peeters, Philips' product manager for optical HID lamps, we realised that we had a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of a close working relationship between lamp and luminaire manufacturers."
Ming Li staff organised the seminar at their premises in Taipei using a conference style layout and a display area with lamps from the Philips Range. There was also a demonstration area for Selecon's Performance Lighting range including the Rama luminaire and the new Performer Series Followspots, which had their Taiwan debut at this event.
Assisted by Philips Taiwan Ltd's Marty Jang and Alex Lee, Peeters led the morning session by going through the Philips product range of Broadway and HID lamps. Peeters' presentation included the 80V Hi-Brite halogen lamp, the Bluepinch 1000W compact filament halogen lamp, and the new 1200W Mini MSR lamp. All of these lamps are used in Selecon luminaires.
After lunch, there was the opportunity to see the lamps in action with strong interest in the Rama lens luminaires and the new Performer Series followspots.
The afternoon session concluded with a presentation on the optical systems used in luminaires by Selecon's Phil Sargent, assisted by Anthony Wu from Ming Li.
