With such considerations in mind, Selecon's Pacific 80V Power System is the result of over three years' R&D aimed at developing better solutions for the entertainment lighting industry. Combining a quality light output (the 80V 1200W lamp delivers as much light on to the stage as a traditional 2.0/2.5kW luminaire, say Selecon) with significant energy savings (as much as 40-50%), the fixture offers an important new tool for designers and venues, say the company. For example, a front-of-house lighting bridge equipped with 40 2.5kW profiles will consume 100,000W, while a a front-of-house lighting bridge equipped with 40 80V Pacifics will consume just 48,000W.
The latest project designed to realize the benefits and advantages in specifying this unique power system is a stunning new performing arts complex, the Dongguan Opera House (right), in Guangdong, China. With installation beginning last month, the centre, with its 1,600-seat opera house and 400-seat experimental theatre is scheduled to open in May 2005. Over 580 Selecon Performance luminaires are being shipped, including 24 Pacific 5.5-13°s with 80V power systems, 135 Pacific 12-28° Zoomspots, 38 Pacific 5.5-13° Zoomspots, 60 Pacific 14-35° Zoomspots and 60 Pacific 23-60° Zoomspots (these all 1kW units) plus Acclaims, Arenas, 1200s and more.
As well as the saving on the lighting load, the 50%+ reduction in heat from the units allows a significant reduction in the load on the air conditioning plant, as heat from stage luminaires is a significant contributor to the need for auditorium air conditioning. The Pacific's heat management system, which directs more heat out of the beam, allows the air conditioning engineer to make significant reductions in energy costs, say Selecon.
Other leading venues that have opted for Selecon include the Haarlem Theater, Amsterdam; La Fenice, Venice; Aotea Centre, Auckland, NZ; the Christchurch Town Hall, Christchurch, NZ and the Sydney Opera House, Australia.
