Sennheiser unveiled the Evolution wireless G2, the second generation of the successful Evolution series. This generation is said to extend the product features with an enhanced design concept, while maintaining the price level of its predecessor, and offers systems for vocals, instruments, presentations, camera work or wireless monitoring.

The G2 makes 1,440 channels available through a much broader 36MHz switching bandwidth, while the bodypack transmitters and mobile receivers have been reduced in size by about 30%. New features include a scan function that automatically searches for free channels, a new user menu and large backlit displays. A pilot tone squelch creates noise-free transmitter mic on/off, adjustable and compatible with first-generation units.Rental companies are expected to use a new reset function, restoring the system to initial settings for the next gig. Meanwhile, the body-pack transmitters and mobile receivers are now powered by two AA-size batteries for longer operating time and stable RF performance.

In addition, the BA 2015 rechargeable battery pack is now available for the hand-held transmitter, the bodypack transmitter, the plug-on transmitter and the mobile receiver. The matching charger recharges the batteries either directly or - for the 300 Series and above - while they are still inside the bodypack transmitter/receiver.

There are five new series. The 100 is the most affordable, with 11 sets covering vocals, instruments, presentation and camera sound. The 300 has seven sets, is supplied with rack adaptors and supplies RF and AF for vocals, presentations and instruments. For the 500 Series, the user can choose from individual components supplied complete with accessories. At the top of the range, the 550 includes the EM 550 twin receiver which can be combined with any transmitters from the 500 Series.

There is even a 300 IEM Series, a wireless monitoring system with compact receiver. This comes with rack adaptor and earphones, while additional receivers with earphones are available separately.
