The redevelopment marks another milestone in the short history of Sherman Cymru which was formed in 2007
UK - Sherman Cymru recently reopened to the public following a £6.5m transformation. The redevelopment of the building has not only created a new iconic creative venue for Cardiff, but has also vastly improved the experience that thousands of people have when visiting the theatre. The redevelopment marks another milestone in the short history of Sherman Cymru which was formed in 2007 through the merger of Sherman Theatre Limited and Sgript Cymru Limited. Since this time Sherman Cymru has consistently produced critically acclaimed and award winning work in both Welsh and English.

As part of the redevelopment, a new sound system was installed into the main house, which is a 468 seat auditorium. The installation of the system was by Marquee installation and Duran Audio UK supplied with two AXYS Scope T2115, two AXYS Scope T2112 (Both three-way full range loudspeakers) and two AXYS B-07 (18" Subwoofers) for the venue.

The AXYS loudspeakers were chosen by former Sherman Cymru head of sound Gareth Evans. "After auditioning a number a different systems within the main theatre, the choice to go with the AXYS system was clear. The speakers in the system offered a manageable, predictable and highly defined quality of audio which would mean a great deal of flexibility from a small number of units."

Evans worked closely with Chris Full (who started his career in sound at the Sherman back in the 80's) on the loudspeaker design to deliver a system that would provide even coverage of this very wide single rake auditorium.

The AXYS T-2112 & T2115 loudspeakers are full range three-way loudspeakers with built in amplification and DSP while the B-07 is a single 18" subwoofer with built in amplification and DSP. These loudspeakers have recently featured on productions that include On a Clear Day at the St James Theatre, NY and Misterman at the National Theatre, London.
