Aggreko is providing temporary power for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games
UK - Aggreko, an official supporter of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, has awarded Showforce a contract to supply local event crew to assist with the deployment of temporary power across the Games' 14 Competitive venues for 17 sports and 16 non-competitive venues including the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) at the SECC, Glasgow.

Showforce was selected following a successful tendering process where the company demonstrated a longstanding commitment to investing in training and development to ensure optimum sustainability for any roles provided on the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games contract In addition local people will be employed wherever possible to maximise the economic and environmental sustainability of the roles created.

Aggreko's Commonwealth Games contract requires deployment of in excess of 120 generators, 1110 distribution panels and over 220 kilometres of cabling. Showforce began assisting with the installation of equipment in May, and will work alongside a team of experienced Aggreko technicians, right through until the end of August, when equipment is recovered post event. The team will include crew, forklift drivers, telehandler drivers and cherry picker operators at venues located in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carnoustie.

Chris Martelly, Showforce's CEO said, "We're delighted to be supporting the global leader in temporary power and temperature control solutions in its preparations for the Commonwealth Games. We believe our experiences working alongside Aggreko on London 2012 enabled us to gain sound knowledge of their equipment and day-to-day practices which has undoubtedly stood us in good stead for this contract.

"As a company we endeavour to maximise local employment and training opportunities to leave a lasting legacy - 85% of staff on London 2012 contracts were employed from host boroughs - and we are keen to replicate this on the Commonwealth Games. To achieve these opportunities, we have opened a dedicated office in Glasgow to deal with recruitment, training and accreditation and hope this will be a springboard towards further work in Scotland."
