FX leisure - which owns five clubs in the region - approached SLR with a dilemma. How to allow customers freedom to choose their own music, while ensuring that the music was suitable for the time of day, or type of activities going on? SLR suggested installing the Versatile Video system into the manager's office and fully profiling the music for every session of the day. A networked, separate remote selector unit was then fitted into the public area of the gym, where customers can choose from the selection of profile tracks available.
Keith Belshaw, operations manager from FX Leisure commented: "Both customer and staff reaction to this new system has been overwhelming. The system that SLR has developed gives us the best of both worlds in that we can profile the unit to play the exact tracks that we believe are correct for a specific period within our club and also still allow our customers the choice of over a thousand tracks to listen to whilst they are exercising.
"As well as the flexibility that the system offers to the site, customers are revelling in the fact that they have a choice of music ranging from the early 50s all the way up to pre-release videos, catering for all the age groups that use the gym facility. The other benefit is that they don't have to wear earphones and can simply select their music via a simple-to-use touch screen. We are gaining new members on the back of this installation," he added.
